"During celebrations, before the presentation, he was filmed grabbing his crotch whilst stood near Spain’s queen and her daughter. There’s been a lot of emphasis in the media about her being underage too. He appears to have doubled down in the last 24 hours insisting he won’t be resigning, but I believe legal action may be taken against him, according to reports this evening. " Michael Jackson did that a lot

"He claims the kiss was consentual" Luis says he had consent when he kissed But the player herself has this notion dismissed “I really didn’t like it” is what she has said Let’s face it Luis, your career looks dead. You’ll have plenty of time to regret your sin With your reputation firmly lodged in the bin.

"Hang on a minute, he kissed her on the lips, no tongue! Yes he was wrong, yes he should be told off and warned but sackable offence…. I’m not so sure. I say this because I’ve had aunties give me worse, and women at work too. It’s disgusting but would I want them sacked over it? No, they just need telling that it’s unacceptable and shouldn’t do it again. That’s off my chest now, going back to sleep. " He grabbed her face and forced a kiss on her, in front of the world media. He grabbed his crotch and made a lewd gesture whilst in the VIP box, right next to the 16yo crown princess of Spain and her mother, Queen Letizia. He picked up Athena del Castillo and carried her around the pitch in a fireman's lift, which appeared spontaneous and not consented to. All this in front of the world. What the fuck does he do in private?! He should be sacked.

To play devil's advocate in this situation ( I AM NOT SAYING WHAT HE DID WAS RIGHT) Would anyone have batted an eyelid if he did this to a male player? "Anyone defending Rubiales would do well to go and research women's rights in recent Spanish history. During the Civil War of 1936-1939, Franco's troops were invited to use r@pe as a tool of war against Republicans. The very essence of Franquismo (the form of fascism that governed Spain from 1939-1975) was anti women's rights. It was rooted in very traditional Catholic church attitudes and denied women full and equal participation in society. Women were to be wives and mothers only, they were not educated and did not participate in the formal workforce. Franquismo is still pervasive in Spanish society and some hanker after its full return (see the political party "Vox"). The fact that Spanish women won the football world cup in a macho and anti-female environment is astonishing and is a huge achievement for the team. It's now being trashed by men who can't control their urges and emotions and that's horrific. The achievement of the Spanish women is so great that I cannot be upset that England lost. " I love you, KC

"Do a picture search on google and you will see picture after picture of footballers (male and female) kissing each other when they are elated. I doubt if all of them consented. The trouble with the world is that people want to find something to take issue with and complain.. not just over this but anything. I do not know the full circumstances and if and when they are known a judgement should be made then, not with a knee jerk reaction now. Is it wrong to kiss another without their consent.. yes of course it is if there is an obvious objection. I will wait to see what happens and in the meantime he could be suspended pending that investigation. If he or she is lying then that could be serious as well and action should be taken. I will leave it there"

To your knowledge has the video been doctored in any way? If you think it hasn't then do you think the conversation he says they had actually happened? Can you see them having it? Can you see her attempting to lift him up? Has anyone said there's another clip from another angle refuting her version (and what can be plainly seen) of what happened? Over to you, sir. Frank

"When you look at the video, it looks like she didnt want it as she tried to pull away as he took both hands on her head to lean in, there should be some kind of investigation into it. I agree that it does make him look unfit for the position, a kiss on the cheek is ok, but not on the mouth.on the world stage." According to the news, he is now suspended as well

"Latest reports suggest Spanish FA are going to take legal action against the victim, they claim they have clear evidence she is lying. Sounds straight out of the Donald Trump playbook to me. His position is untenable, just resign already She's a national hero and her dad just died. It's an arsehole move, so yeah, very Trumpian." Incorrect. "I saw a lovely message from the Lionesses supporting the Spanish team. What would also help is if male players called out the behaviour of twatfeatures. " Some male players and former players have. Borja Iglesias of Real Betis has said he won't play for the national team until this matter is resolved. Spanish national hero Iker Casillas has shown his support for the women and Barcelona's manager, Xavi Hernández has stated his support for the women too. I think it would help if more current players refused to play until the matter is resolved.

I think it is important that men speak out (in Spain and here) because young boys and men are watching and in particular because some of the PL teams have refused to do the mandatory training on consent. He grabbed her face and forced a kiss on her, in front of the world media. I mean just see how excited some fans, pundits, player's, managers get when they win a game or tournament. Some completely loose their shit and possibly for a brief moment he got carried away in the moment?? I'm not sure about the crotch grabbing tho. Also don't forget that this is a very tactile culture where kissing is an intrinsic part of greetings and the like. Like I said I'm not saying that it is okay, just giving a different point of view. Spanish culture does not include grabbing faces and snogging them without consent. It does not include picking people up and carrying them round like a sack of potatoes. It does not include making lewd gestures. Source: I've spent vast swathes of my life in Spain and with Spanish people. U have lots of Spanish friends and they are all united in finding his behaviour abhorrent. The Spanish FA have a long history of machismo. Fair points Then again with FIFA running things he'll probably get an extended contract, a bonus, a bung and a free voucher to the local knocking shop Yup. With Infantino's signed pic as a bonus gift. "

"I think possibly if his reaction to being called out had been different we might be having a different discussion altogether What was his reaction I haven't seen it?? He claimed that he had consent (a claim refuted by the woman he kissed) and called his critics 'false feminists' to a hearty round of applause from a mostly male audience. Sounds a bit "Trump like"" To all the above.

"I almost feel this is a complete parody and exactly demonstrates inequality in the game and the world. We have this huge sporting event which showcases women's sport, entertainment, positive female role models, and them all showing their skill. It's super inspiring for women around the globe. When the winning team come to get their medals, a male grabs a woman's face and kisses her, then says 'she consented, it's fine, I did nothing wrong' despite the fact the woman did not say or indicate any consent. Everyone tells him what he did was wrong, but he refuses to acknowledge his blatant sexism and abuse of the power dynamic. Once she comes out to say 'I did not consent' , she is now getting sued by him. It's literally showing how sexist the world is right at the end of an event that was meant to demonstrate equality and female empowerment" Yes to all of this!

"Womans sports, should be woman only. Not just the athletes, but administrators, management and coaching staff. Why? Because a few men can't keep their hands to themselves? Thats just the tip of a very big iceberg. Segregating by sex isn't the answer. I know we've moved away from the initial discussion but all too often women are asked/told to modify their behaviour, dress, activities to protect them from men. How about we switch this and encourage the few men who seem to misunderstand to modify their behaviour? I'd agree with you. But like these threads have shown, I think your underestimating the numbers. I don't think any intelligent woman underestimates the numbers. Was replying to the post about changing the behaviour about " the few men". Think there's a lot more than a few. That was my comment and I was referring to football officials. Not all men. " No not your comment, Nicecouple561 comment. Last quoted post before my reply.

"however in the same way that I wear a seat belt even though I don't expect to crash my car I'm wary of all men I don't know " There’s a great Brownmiller quote about the process of rxpe and how all men create fear that expresses similar. She’s a racist but the quote was powerful.

" -Statistically the collective male ego (if you will) has been going backwards over recent years, no doubt about it. Ok if you look at people individually this kind of trend information can 'disappear' of course (men can be pretty enlightened too!), but study the big picture and men are getting lazier and lazier with their 'reductive thinking.' Simples! It's all fuelled by the raw emotions of paranoia and prejudice imo. And they are grouping together (again for ease) and too many women are adjoining them imo (again for their own ease). And they seem to be attracted to autocrats too. I find this return of masculinity thing real codswollop. And some of the most masculine men I know feel the same way about that too. pt

"Could a vending machine at competions be the way forward. The winning team simply walk up onto the podium and press a button and the medal rolls down a chute " Go back to what they did during the covid time. Stick the medals on a table for them to just collect themselves. Last person up, picks the trophy up too.
