A world of my own

Both my last two TVs died on me a week before Xmas, seems the little buggers have some sort of destruct thingy put in them by the manufacturers, that makes em blow up at this time of year, well thats my opinion anyway.

Being and ex tv engineer, this always seemed to happen quite a lot around the festive period ...

Years ago it was because most receivers had done very little work during the day on account of having little or no daytime tv to watch, then come the holiday times and all the xtra programs, they were switched on, did a lot of extra work, then went pop ! In the days of valves, dampness also played a detrimental role in the life of a tele, causing the insulation on internal high voltage cables to break down with the resultant flashes, bangs and smoke which followed . It was a myth in those days that the tv should be 'saved' from wearing out by not over using it on , they were so much more reliable being used and kept at a fairly uniform temperature.

Nowadays they are 10000's of % more reliable and equally more difficult to repair. Thank God I'm no longer in the trade
