Allow cats to go outside on their own. I once shared a photo on social media of a gorgeous cat I'd seen in the street and a bunch of Americans jumped on me for not taking it home with me. I couldn't work out why they were so angry that I hadn't taken someone's cat but it was because they assumed any cat unsupervised on the street is either a stray or homeless.

Another very common practice in the USA is declawing cats. It sounds like the process just involves trimming the claw, but it actually involves breaking bones, and can leave the car not able to walk without pain. Just so their furniture won't get claw marks...

No, with great respect that is incorrect. In Britain there is no longer a right to bear arms. The policy of the law is that it is illegal to possess firearms unless that person has a permit. If you require a permit then it is not right.

So British subjects can of course purchase say a shotgun in the UK BUT we must obtain a licence and the official reason for owning said weapon can only be for sport or pest control. We cannot own a firearm purely for self-defence.

As for American citizens the Second Amendment states the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Of course the irony is the many of the powers that be in the UK that stop you holding a firearm for self-defence enjoy armed security for self-defence.

It maybe prudent to add at this point we are as UK Subjects able to use REASONABLE force for self-defence so in certain situations this might include the use of a firearm. But I cannot emphasise the use of the word MIGHT strongly enough. It is a very grey area!

When I lived in WI our village had an ordinance that forbade letting your cats outside. First offences were fines but could include removal if the cat.

In America a permit is required for all types of Firearm that are permitted. If you meet and maintain all the terms and conditions of the law you have a right to own a gun.In this country you need a licence for any type of Firearm that is permitted,if you meet and maintain those terms and conditions you have a right to a firearm. What you want the firearm for is not relevant to the issuing of a licence.Pest control or sport is not the only reason for owning a weapon. The police licensing department ask for a reason only to asses you as a "fit and proper person".

If you meet and maintain the conditions of the licence you have the right to do it.

You have the right to drive a car if:-

You are the minimum age

You have the appropriate licence

Are medically fit

Not a banned driver

Own or have the owners permission

The car is road legal, taxed MoT'd and insured.

Meet and maintain those conditions you have the "right",in other words there is no legal mechanism to stop you.

I'm not sure where you are getting your information from but again with great respect that is just not correct.

US Federal law does not require individuals to obtain a license or permit to purchase a firearm.

However things like mental illness and previous convictions can render a person prohibited to carry weapons under State law.But due process has to take that away from them... until then they enjoy the right.

It maybe prudent to add at this point we are as UK Subjects able to use REASONABLE force for self-defence so in certain situations this might include the use of a firearm. But I cannot emphasise the use of the word MIGHT strongly enough. It is a very grey area!

I said meet and maintain, having a mental illness or a relevant conviction is not meeting the criteria.State law requires a permit, state law varies in relevant convictions, drink driving is a disqualification in some states in others not.

The question is what gives someone the "right to".Meet and maintain the conditions of the licence you have the "right to".

No. A licence or permit grants permission nothing more. "

Which cannot be removed if you meet and maintain the conditions of it,therefore "the right".When you have had a UK FAC and SGC for nearly forty years you wil know what you are talking about.By the way we don't have firearms licences or permits only certificates.

We have a right to bear arms. Its just written differently in law,in the same way we have a right to drive a car for example.

Oh dear.... no, no no. You are trying to split hairs now. And failing badly.

What Surjon has told you is the actual law as it currently stands in each respective country. "

Apart from:- mental illness/convictions do not prevent someone from carrying a weapon, they prevent someone being granted a licence, having one renewed or having one revoked.A licence to carry is a separate entity altogether which very few states issue, either carry concealed or open view.

Just so their furniture won't get claw marks..."

"Make a cracking breakfast. I’m still traumatised by my breakfast at Denny’s many moons ago, where I had a square sausage and the egg scrambled (bit too wet) bacon and pancakes with syrup. All on the same plate!!

There is nothing wrong with the above.

American food leaves a lot to be desired (so does british), but there’s nothing wrong with a Denny’s breakfast!

Nothing wrong with American food- I've had some great meals over there (especially in Texas/New Orleans).

It's just that they have a different concept of breakfast to us (although I do rate the biscuits and gravy) Yes biscuits and gravy is one of my favorite "

Yes but your biscuits are our scones, which is more of a cake. Our biscuits are what you would call a cookie

What is an American scone?! And a scone is not a cake. Blasphemy!

It's to give thanks for positive things in you and your families life. Everyone gets together. It's not Christmas like you suggested.

"Play cricket

Forego their right to bear arms

We have a right to bear arms. Its just written differently in law,in the same way we have a right to drive a car for example."

No. That is incorrect. We don't.

I shan't bore anyone with a dull history lesson but starting with the Disarming Acts of 1716, followed by the Act of Proscription of 1746, the Vagrancy Act of 1824, the Night Poaching Acts of 1828 and 1844 and numerous Game Acts (from 1831 onwards) and the Firearms Act of 1920 (itself amended in 1997 after the Dublane tragedy) have all had the effect of controlling the possession of firearms in Britain thus there is no longer a right to bear arms.
