Sarina Wiegman to replace Gareth Southgate?

ESPN reporting that the FA will consider her for the manager of the men’s team job post Gareth Southgate. Can’t help but feel like Emma Hayes has been overlooked here but do we think she’s up to it? Just imagine if she wins it all with both the women and the men

Think anyone would do a better job than Southgate, all well in good saying he got to the final, semi final in the last 2 tournaments.

Didn’t win them though, that’s your job as a coach is to win… Just the media want to play this great big sob story, how he missed a penalty & could potentially lift a trophy for England.

He’s band average, not too mention his favouritism over certain players is a joke

I’m all for it. She’s clearly a good manager/coach and she can inspire her players a lot more than Southgate can. Also it keeps them away from Eddie Howe so win win

He was the first player to make me cry over a football match and then the first manager to make my son cry. Fuck him!

She can clearly manage but I think she should spend time coaching in a men’s league before she is considered for the men’s national team.

I am not saying she can’t do it but I think jumping straight there could go horribly wrong and there are probably enough differences in the way the game is played to require a transition.

I think that the international coaching is a little easier than domestic football

Men’s football.

Woman’s football.

Keep them separate.

Or are we going to have a guy pkay in defence for the woman’s team because we can’t find a suitable centre back for the woman’s team in the next World Cup.

It’s a stupid idea, and opens an option that shouldn’t be there.

I was against having a foreign manager for our national side, and I’ll stand against it as it won’t be a men’s national team if that happens.

ESPN are idiots.

Maybe she will think there's nothing she can do for the men's team and stick with her winners.

She may not want anything to do with the job and I think she likely won’t but I would like to see a woman manager in the men’s game. Emma Hayes is such a great mind. Even getting them in the coaching staff would be good I think. I think if women are interested in managing football, they should be able to manage and coach in the game. Rather than being limited to only women’s football. Men coach the women’s game constantly.

Yes. I am.

If we’ve separated the sports (as this is the example). Men should not be part of the womans team.

Where is the line drawn?? I dunno, not thought about it too deeply, but medical and physio????

But when that team photo for the woman’s squad is taken, are the woman happy that Dave the Bloke is in the middle? It’s now not a womans SQUAD.

_If_ she thinks that management has an impact on a teams chances then she will likely want to prove she can make a difference.

_If_ she thinks that it is only down to the players and management is irrelevant then she will accept that she has had no actual impact on the women’s game and won’t try.

Something tells me that the she thinks the former rather than the latter….

Woody - I am afraid I disagree pretty fundamentally with you on this.

I think the players should be play different matches based on sex (size and strength differences) but that is where the sex barrier stops. I can see no reason why a female coach should not be as good as a male one - given the same chances. Ditto for any other staff position.

Can a woman be better than a man coach in England football. You bet. Even if we lose Sunday someone has to. Not thinking we will.

Sarina may not want to coach half million pound players who are laze about because what FIFA pay them is rubbish pay so they play like it.

Something seriously wrong with the world if we can’t imagine a woman telling men what to do to win a football game but we accept and expect women to take it from a man.

That’s my reflection provoked by your comment and this thread. It’s interesting though

And proved himself to be useless at a high level too!

No experience of being any good at knockout football or coaching anything similar to the international game and international intense tournaments.

The FA will go with someone in the England set up I think. Whether that’s a coach of the tiger age groups or of the women’s game we’ll see.

Emma hayes is good enough to get at least a shot at a job in the championship and I am surprised no one has done it…

But wiegman in the space of 8 years has gotten to 2 euros final and 2 World Cup finals back to back to back to back

I am so glad they are going to at least build a statue of her at Wembley cause she deserves that….

I didn’t say couldn’t be as good as a male coach. even if she was BETTER, I’d still feel like the MENS team is copping out Oman’s borrowing from a more successful pool of choices.

It like bending the rules ( I know there’s probably no rule agains mix sexes in the coaching staff side). It’s just my opinion.
