Are you open to changing your perception, to someone you dislike online, when meeting them face to face at a social

Gillingham

Yeah sure.

Plenty of people don't have the ability to express their personality very well via message.

Very open, I've been extremely surprised meeting people at socials who's profiles I wouldn't have looked at twice or some I thought I wouldn't like and it's turned out the total opposite.

Face value is so much different to online.

Yes. I don't really dislike anyone before I've met them. Even once I have, it's not really dislike. More awareness that they're not my cup of tea.

I try and remember that I have biases that will influence how I view someone and take them as they are in person.

Regardless of what's been said to me before, what I've read etc.

Yes, online doesn’t allow for context, body language or inflection. Messages are easily misconstrued

Absolutely - forum personas give a somewhat tiny insight into anybody’s personality. I’m infinitely curious about everything so would welcome the opportunity to find out more, be that ‘good’ or ‘bad’.

The possibilities are always endless on perspective, your perception of someone online is like a character in a book, you build your own profile of said person, but when meeting, of course your view can change as the person proves to you that they are not the person you suspected them to be.

I don't think I've met anyone in real life that I didn't like based on their forum contributions. I'd speak to them and be civil and if they're easy to talk to, it would change my perception but I'm aware that people can behave very differently in real life compared to online.

Yes, and I’ve experienced it both ways. Plenty can’t really get their personality across in just text, or in person there are other parts to them which are attractive which I never realised.

One or two have been big personalities online but been pretty insignificant in a face to face group.

Of course there are other bits too, sometimes it’s not fair to judge someone in a group if they’re uneasy in that situation, they might still be a diamond one to one.

Nope. In general I don’t like many people until they show me their tits. If they don’t have tits then I won’t like them. If they have tits but don’t show them to me, I won’t like them. If they have tits and have shown me their tits, they are my friend for life.

This is the way

Yes but it absolutely depends on what's given me a poor opinion of them to start with. There are certain views I'm not going to get over just because you're pleasant to me personally face-to-face.

Yes, I'd be open to that (and vice versa, obviously!), but can't say it's happened often. What people say/how they act online is still "real" and would still play a big part in shaping my opinion of them.

I know people can be entirely different irl to how the are online, but it would depend on why i didn’t like them in the first place. There’s just some people you know you won’t get along with.

There's a lot of people I know I wouldn't get on with, I don't need to meet them to know that. And I wouldn't waste my time in trying to prove it wrong.

As a man on here it’s not easy to start with but do find it very hard to express my self on here with having dyslexia doesn’t help but a lot of peoples attitudes towards others is not so good

I would always give people the benefit of the doubt my self

Definitely. Unless their posts had already marked them out as racist/homophobic/transphobic etc. To misquote Pulp Fiction I wouldn't be changing my mind even they're a charming motherfucking pig.

Other than that, I'm pretty open to what people will be like in person.

"Are you open to changing your perception, to someone you dislike online, when meeting them face to face at a social"

Of course, when reading something online it's very subjective and can come across in a different way to how the poster means for it to come across.

It also works the opposite too, they can seem lovely online and then you find them a tool in real life

Tinder x

But obviously there are limits if they're openly racist, homo/transphobic, misogynistic thrn nothings gonna change my perception

Open to it, yes.

Very few exceptions. Some people push past the point of no return.

Some things (different for different people) just don't get forgotten, forgiven, or overlooked.

No. There are some people on the forums that i really dislike, if i went to a social they are at (which is unlikely) i would avoid them completly. I have most blocked.
