Anyone else scroll for hours, days, weeks, what seems like an eternity trying to decide where to go?

Already cancelled one week as been so indecisive!

With that - any tips for October sun?

Glasgowish

I usually know the destination I want to go to then just walk into the travel agents for them to arrange flights and decent accommodation so doesn't take long.

Portugal is nice in October. Most places in Europe are a little unpredictable later in the year. Egypt is guaranteed sunshine.

I spend ages putting DIY holidays together. Saves loads of money. I really enjoy it, so it doesn't feel like a hassle. Its exciting

I just pop into Hayes travel, tell them what I’m looking for and they do an amazing job finding my perfect trip/holiday and always find the cheapest possible options

Honestly tried this the other day - we walked in and the travel agent literally said ‘everything I do is the same as online, so you should just look there’ - then gave about three options and clearly had little Interest.

We were surprised as thought that would be the best option - also, no wonder lots of them closed with that approach x

Madeira

Lovely weather, great hiking, cheap transport around the island and the capital Funchal in stunning.

Not great for beaches though but at least you avoid other Brits mostly or in my case other Irish

It’s on our hit list for a city break next year!

This one is more of a sunshine break then a hiking one x

I never struggle I have a whole list of places to see before I die !

Gulf in Middle East is great in October if you like nice beaches and warm sea. Sharks Bay, Egypt, Jordan, the dead Sea, Dubai is starting to cool down by Oct and the sea is still lovely and warm.

October is also good for Photography, as the crowds vacate places, like Lisbon, Andalusia, Venice, Cinque Terre are still warm and dry.

It used to be easier. Not so much anymore. It is a joke how much they now charge compared to not that long ago. Yes things have gone up but I can't see the justification for such increases, sometimes twice or even more than the previous prices. And in most cases you don't get as good an experience or service as you used to. On the other hand we all love and need our holidays so it's all about putting the effort to finding one as close to your requirements as you can. Good luck and enjoy wherever you go.

"Waiting on my holiday to Egypt in November can't bloody wait.

Have been looking at Egypt…"

My opinion, October is better than November. The reefs are amazing, you don’t need to book any trips, each resort has its own reef a few metres from the beach. Some people find the sea temperature a little bit chilly by November.

I would highly recommend sharks Bay diving resort, Sharmel, sheik. Little Bedouin huts on the beach, away from all the tourists, I think I paid about €10 a night B&B, you can also climb Mount Sinai. If you are adventurous, you can get a guide to drive you there and take you up for the night for around €100,, if you’re not familiar with independent travel.

Best tip for Egypt,, Cary lots of Egyptian pounds and small denomination euros only.

At least flights around Europe are still cheap

I flew return to South America before Covid for €750. Now I'm looking at €1,200 at least!

The thing with weather these days is that it can't really be guaranteed even in places that almost certainly could have done before. I always had great weather in Portugal but one time it rained for the whole holiday. It also has happened in the Canaries and in the middle of the hot season. It is in the laps of the gods

Only perhaps if if you pick a cheap airline and an aiport usually quite a distance from main one. Otherwise not that cheap in my experience anymore

Ryanair is cheap. I flew to Madeira direct for €155 direct including checked bags.

Long haul is gone crazy expensive

I paid to subscribe to Jacks Flight Club at the beginning of the year. For an annual cost of about £20 you get almost daily alerts highlighting sale and error flight prices.

Obviously the offers can be quite restrictive and often they are airlines I wouldn’t normally choose but I got to Argentina in March for £700 and have just booked to go to The Philippines in October for less than that.

Their latest alert is Auckland for £570 including bag which is an insane price.
