You cant get them out once they are in there, just put the fire on and it will gas them and put a wire mesh over the top of your chimney to prevent them getting in

Thanks! I though I had a grill over the chimneys- but clearly not, from the coo-ing that I could hear this morning... Time to find someone with exceptionally long ladders and a helmet to get up onto my roof :/

If it's an open fire there's smoke pellets you can get. Put a fire on, throw them on fire and they'll not be long disappearing
