I dont and I have still got my old galaxy g5 mobile which I have had now for many many years. I think it is 7 years now.

It is still working, but I thought that I would get a new one, just in case something would happen to that one.

What about you, do you buy a new mobile every year and if you have a old one still, what make is it?

How many years have you had yours for?

If I didn't have the need for internet or emails, I would have my old Nokia 3310. But at the moment I have a pixel 3 for over 4 years, it's still going strong. My main goal has always been to find a phone that is good and go onto a SIM only.

I went into a phone shop once and all the digital labels were not working, and it opened my eyes a little. All makes and models looked exactly the same, only difference was camera specs. If it isn't broken, why fix it.

They come in handy depending on what I am doing

11 pro max has a throw away SIM card in it for fab so I can hand out my number and just switch it off

The X is a 10 year anniversary phone bank on it going through the roof in 20-30 years time

People still wishing they would have keep they original iPhone 1st gens they up at like 30-40k

The 6s+ is the last iPhone with a headphone jack currently live it’s life as a music streaming device

5s dose nothing but comes in handy if going out

Switch my sim it to it and that that don’t need to worry about it getting broke or lost

But yes you can and thanks for the suggestion

I keep it until it doesn't work as it should (usually battery). I stay mindful of the manufacturer's quest to promote consumerism and an unnecessary desire for customers to have the latest product, because they have changed something / upgraded last year's model, or because the customer wants to be 'the coolest kid on the block'. I remain conscious that I actually probably only use 30% of my phone's capability, so why do I need improvement in the 70% that I don't use?

I haven’t bought a personal phone or computer for about 20 years!

Employers or my business replace every 2 years. I have an iPhone 14 since April and an old iPhone 12 from my last contract. I do still have a Nokia 3310 for GPS only when wild-camping. Modern phones generally don’t triangulate as fast or on such little power.

Nope that was a update blunder when the battery degrades the phone will give the choice to down click the cpu so it isn’t use the same amount off power

The first interaction off this you couldn’t turn it off then the backlash it and they implemented a switch that can stop it

At least they did something about it google have been getting away with it for years

But killing cash memory and never done anything about it but never talked about

Need to know how to stick your phone in recovery mode and clear the catch out

You know you can protect screens for £5 you can buy the stick on glass online for any phone and you can even buy replacement screen kits on eBay with the jumper leads snd tiny screwdrivers!

Having children has its advantages you get loads of practice replacing screens of phones, tablets and laptops

I get a £100 Motorola or similar from Argos and run it for 3 years or so until the battery goes. A cheap Android does just about everything an expensive one does, so I cannot see why people spend £1000 on one when my one does most of the things an expensive one does anyway.

I look into getting a new phone when the old one has to have a power pack permanently attached due to low battery life. However, I stopped relying on branded phones after one year my bf at that time (who used to work for O2) got himself an unbranded phone from China. It cost him pennies compared to my phone at that time, and he could use it all day and still had plenty of battery life left at the end of the day. He taught me what to look for when getting a new phone (battery mostly), and I never looked back! My current phone cost me under £100 on Amazon, it has been with me for just under 2 years and is still going strong. I can still get about 1.5 days out of it on one charge.

I am definitely not going back to iPhones or Samsungs etc.

I've just got a new Huawei P40 Pro to replace a 2 year old P30 Pro. I tend to buy phones that have been on the market for a couple of years and then keep them for two years or so? In the process I have divorced Google

Next I need to wean myself off Facebook.

In theory yes and no.. for example the new iOS 17 will work with iPhones Xs, 11, 11s,12,13,14 and 15… but even the 11’s will be 6-7 years old! Anything older than that will still be able to use older software, but they won’t support bug fixes!

I always bought a new phone every other year… but this was the first time I didn’t so I’ve had this one 3 years and never had an issue

I used to every 2 years. But then I got the Galaxy S10. Great phone, so had that over 4 years now because it continues to cut the mustard (and I use my phone a lot and need a good one). So no need to change. Plus so many new phones now don't come with a SD card slot with the a ability to hold a huge capacity SD card which I like. And I don't want cloud services or paying subscriptions for large storage. However unfortunately I've read that soon the update support for my S10 will be pulled so maybe its time to look for something else.

I've loved the galaxy S series over the years. However (like most other on the market) the S series no long had an SD card slot I think. So when I look for a new phone I may have to look at other brands.

I used to keep my S5 as a back up phone. I don't know how anyone uses it anymore as their main phone. I used my S5 not long ago while my S10 was away for repair. So many of the apps I use daily you just can't get on the Play store for the S10 or just wont launch. Hardly anything is supported for it anymore. Plus apps are so much bigger and storage space was another huge issue for said apps.

We have a chain of hand me downs. I used to get a new one every time I could get a free upgrade (I also get a discount through work). But the next in the chain (youngest child) has an iPhone 8 & I have a 3 year old 11. I like the 11 but the 8 really needs replacing (will go to father-in-law) but they want to wait for the 15 which I don’t think I can afford so they might have to settle for a 14. T was given a good deal on his sister-in-law’s Samsung but he can’t get on with it so is looking at an iPhone SE which our eldest has.

I used to let my contract run over when it's run out you're not tied to a contract but if you have a great deal it's a good way to go and if you wanted to buy another device buy one. 8 years I was only paying £12.50 unlimited everything

Takes me years to get a new phone and never on contract now, used to have 2 contracts phones and both died on me within a year, total waste of money. Now i pay for the phone and then get a contract sim. Had a cheap ass android I bought for £50 for like 4 years until I was eventually able to upgrade to a Google pixel, very nice phone and worth the money. Bought a £20pm sim contract for unlimited data and a heavy duty case to keep the phone in good nick

I like things to last as long as possible so I spend less over time and I hate contracts on pretty much everything in life too, waste of money in my opinion but sometimes can't be avoided.

Nope. Buy something SIM-free outright and use a PAYG SIM until it starts glitching/not holding battery! Usually get 2-ish years out of a handset.

Don't ever spend crazy money on latest handset as the chance of dropping and breaking it is too high! Use screen protectors and silicon case to try save them from myself.

This.

The shortest time I'd had a phone before getting a new one was about 18 months - 24 months. And this was because of a fault that happened just after warranty ended, and could not be repaired by other means.

Not anymore, price of phone contracts these days are ludicrous.

I worked it out that, for an iPhone - you pay

£60 a month x 24

£100 upfront for the phone

£1480 over the life time of the contract, plus the £100 for the phone up front. That’s £1580 all in.

For a standard model iPhone 14, that’s almost 2 phones for the price of one.

Suffice to say, I kept my iPhone 12 for 3 years and I’ll need to replace it as the battery is dropping like a stone.

I find it strange that so many people would change their phone when the battery doesn't hold its charge for long enough. The cost of getting a new battery fitted is peanuts compared to the price of a new phone.

I typically don't, preferring to buy outright and then use a Sim-only service, preferably with the shortest contract time possible, as network quality seems to vary. My favourite phone died last year

Replacements didn't seem to cut it, despite being newer tech. And just lost my replacement, so having to repeat the job

I (Mr) use a Microsoft Windows mobile phone, most apps no longer work but I can still get on most of the websites I need to and make calls and text so does everything I need. I have multiple computers and tablets to do everything else so I happy with my phone.

The wife does lots more stuff on her phone and hers is android but still a few years old so I will be buying her a new one for xmas (don't tell her).

Upgrade only when necessary- just gone from a scratched screen / degraded battery iPhone 11 to a 14 Pro Max. I have to say that the transfer of everything from the old Iphone to the new one was effortless - it’s all there and only a few usernames and passwords needed (but forgotten) when logging in to apps - but that’s my fault.

I used to as soon as the contract run out. This phone though I've had 5 years and it's on sim only so I've saved myself a fair bit of money by not upgrading as soon as the contract running out. I think it's on its way out though but will keep it for as long as possible.

I change every couple of years or so, mainly because there's a feature I want or need. I left Apple 10 yrs ago and never looked back. I loved Huawei phones til Google withdrew.

I hated my old phone (Sony) for more reasons than deemed possible and couldn't wait to switch.

Pixel 9 Pro is a dream!

"We have a chain of hand me downs. I used to get a new one every time I could get a free upgrade (I also get a discount through work). But the next in the chain (youngest child) has an iPhone 8 & I have a 3 year old 11. I like the 11 but the 8 really needs replacing (will go to father-in-law) but they want to wait for the 15 which I don’t think I can afford so they might have to settle for a 14. T was given a good deal on his sister-in-law’s Samsung but he can’t get on with it so is looking at an iPhone SE which our eldest has.

I am glad ours is not the only family to use the Hand me down system… lol

Back when they were 12 months contracts, I got the new one, sis got mine, mum got sis ( but I had to how the phone works talk because I had the patience of a saint) and my aunt got mum’s…

Now they are 24 month contracts and mum passed, I get the new one, sis gets mine, aunt gets sis… and if needed aunt sends me back phone if needed for exchange purposes…
