So we did some sexy pics last night, after putting on some weight I'm at the point of looking in the mirror and going urgh.... Doesn't look like me I see all the flaws.

But.... The pics I actually look good, no where near as big as envisaged myself through the mirror.

Anyway why is it I can look so different, maybe it's the lingere? Does anyone else find themselves liking there photos more than the mirror or vice versa?

Or am I just a weirdo (well I know I am but still)

I saw a photo of me the other day and thought wow this man needs some work

I also take a selfie and think do I really look like that.

The feeling of a fairground hall of mirrors comes to mind

I like my photos because I dissociate from them - they don't have my face in so aren't me type thing.

I think a lot of us have the wrong impression of our bodies. I'm frequently surprised by my photos and every season I'm surprised that last year's clothes fit

I admit I'm no photographer, so angles and kind lighting are witchcraft to me! But God I look terrible in most pics! I don't recognise my own face now! It's slightly worrying that I can look in the mirror sometimes and think...oh not too bad today then!

So I've no idea if the pics or the mirror is the true likeness any more!

When I look back at pictures of myself I struggle to believe that I actually look like that sometimes. In my head I look bigger than I actually am, I hate my side profile in the mirror but in pictures it looks completely different. One of them is lying to me!

A lot of what we see in the mirror is through the filter of our emotions. Its prejudged. Either that or youve got one of those circus mirrors that squidges you up.

I hate to generalise, but mirrors are evil bastards. All of them.

They lie often, but always seem to know which bits of ourselves we like the least and magnify those.

I'm sure you already know this....but angles, light, body position etc. And any filters used.

I took some new ones last night as haven't in a bloody long time. I was worried as I've lost about a stone and a half in the last month.

But I'm happy with them.

Anyone can look good in well staged photos. It's a bit harder to hide when you're looking in the mirror.

Carlisle usually

I find it's very much linked to state of mind. The times I catch myself in the mirror slouching and getting out of bed and what have you aren't my sexiest angles, but they're also jot my sexiest moods, so my perception of myself is lower.

Usually, when I'm looking at deliberate photos, they're usually taken in a positive state of mind so looking at them immediately after is a more positive mindset rather than one that focuses on all the flaws.

Then it's all in your head. Too much pressure for people to look perfect. I stopped worrying about it. I expect to look like I'm fat and 50 because that's what I am, so the mirror doesn't surprise me anymore. It's all about accepting who you are and that what you look like doesn't determine that. Pictures only capture a snapshot and can be either flattering or they can go the other way. How often has someone taken a picture that you weren't ready for and you see it and think "eeek I look awful in that picture"?!

Nothing worse than those weird mirrors in Changing rooms where you can see yourself at every angle and you think f**k is that what I look like from the side or behind.

You're not comparing like with like. There's a few things to tease apart. Cameras are 2D, our eyes are 3D. The way they process images is very different. We can alter what a camera sees but the human eye is not as easily manipulated, it's still possible but there's a more limited range.

Then there's mirrors, are we seeing a true image of ourselves in a mirror.

Finally there's how we see ourselves. Taking pictures can be difficult, taking hot pictures can be really really difficult.

It can go either way, sometimes photo is good and sometimes mirror is good.. sometimes lighting and angle changes

It's something I've noticed a lot in my face recently. I hate selfies as a whole but went on an activity with friends last week where we took photos and was horrified with how fat my face looked and hated it, especially when I didn't think it was that bad in a mirror.

It seems the opposite of my body though where I notice the flaws more in the mirror than I do in photos.

That’s exactly how I feel. I quite like my face in the mirror but feel I look awkward on selfies.

Hello Mrs,

In my opinion your pics reveal sensuality… and you are definitely not a weird one on here, as I am feeling exactly the same.. I am older than you as well, so let’s be honest… my “glorious & young “ body’s time had may have passed by now, however experiencing these new adventures on the swing side made me realising how lucky I am still, as the sensuality of an encounter could give you more than what mirrors can ever “say”

Enjoy it!

Phone cameras have a tighter focal range, especially the front facing ones are not wide enough for selfies to be flattering. They distort us close up.

It is better to take a selfie at a distance and either sometimes zoom in or crop the image after - results vary.

Modern phones do so much image processing that I don't think the front facing camera in particular is a good representation of your actual appearance. What you're seeing is what the phone optimises from the image it captures

The Town by The Cross

Vice Versa.

If I look in the mirror with correct lighting and good make up and hair ....... I have that 'smug' sort of reaction that says ...... not a day over 40 and still got it! ( that's nowt below the shoulders though )

Taking a selfie of other body parts ( medical reasons ) yesterday I accidentally caught some of my face. I looked like a grimacing walnut that was busy having the last drop of life sucked out of it and as if i'd kill anything that so much as smiled an hello .......

I'm sticking to the mirror post getting ready to go out.
