Which will often save you the most money or does it not make much difference?

If its a holiday, then booking in advance will prove to be cheaper as you get free kids places and get longer to pay and flights may be less. The days of last min really cheap deals are gone.

It's getting very hard to get last minute deals these days, I wouldn't think there would be much difference in price if you booked it now or next week

Depends who you are booking with. Travelodge, premier inn etc will be cheaper the further out you book them. Other hotels may reduce prices to ensure occupancy nearer the time by advertising on late rooms or hotwire etc.

Also depends on when and where you are going. If there are any major events going on the hotels will hike the price as they know people will pay it.

I booked roxy and I into a travelodge with 5 days notice for £29 but my room when I met Obi (premier inn) was £62 with 2 weeks notice.

We generally look at hotels.thing and ebookers. Got flat in Edinburgh last minute last month for £49. And, Gilly's just back from a night at Thistle Barbican, double room, breakfast £48. All booked last minute.
