So before this gets to a big debate, the Scottish accent of the English language is actually an accent. Because it is the same language used in England, Wales, Ireland, the USA, Canada etc.

Gaelic is the original Scottish language, but the vast majority or Scots use the English language.

I'm not from Scotland, but that's my understanding of it. For the record, I'm not English / British either, so do forgive any misconceptions in my understanding.

"There must be other people who like an accent different to their own?"

I like all accents. That's not to say I'm attracted to them. I like accents though, it's part of the person.

Some are more appealing than others of course, as a scouser I know this better than most. One of the marmite accents. But generally the variety is what appeals to me.

Plus I would go as far to say, despite being their own accents their differences are not as distinct nor diverse as English accents. England really doesn't have a collective accent, we're as with Scotland, as you say they are 100% without a doubt Scottish.

I don't think anywhere else in the world has such blatant and polarising diversity when it comes to accents as England does as a country.

A Boston accent is huge difference to a texan accent of course but even then it doesn't come close to the UK differences.
