"Are you comfortable doing so? I've done it a fair bit, but usually when I'm in other countries. If I do here it's usually just lunch. I'm planning on taking myself out for dinner tonight... Might try and get myself a bit tipsy so I can take advantage of the situation." Good on you. Hope it turns in to an adventure for you mate

"Yep. I have done working away or on a solo trip somewhere. I really enjoy it! I can order exactly what I want (normally some sort of cheese and a garlicky dish) without feeling sorry for the poor sap sitting across from me. It's great for people watching. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, far from it actually. It's nice to have that time to me. And I love food (evidently)." The good thing about eating with someone though is you get to order loads and then try everything.

"After my marriage failed and I moved out I spent a lot of time eating in pubs alone feeling sorry for myself but then I discovered sex clubs and all was well in the world again " Do they serve meals there? I might actually consider going then.

"I tend to prefer eating with someone else, but mostly because I like getting multiple nibbly bits rather than a main course and we can get way more variety if there's more people to feed." Yeah, this is a huge downside.

"I refuse to let being on my own again stop me doing nice things. So yep taking myself out for dinner, cocktails! Why not! I've even taken myself on holiday " I do. I'm quite comfortable doing things on my own - I usually travel alone too. Just wondering about others as a lot of people I know wouldn't.

Pretty similar for me, I am happy doing anything by myself and wouldn't let a lack of company stop me. Dinner, concerts, events etc.

"No, I'm terrible at this. Happy in a coffee shop, but I don't eat alone anywhere that feels more restaurant-y. I know this is a failing." Not a failing at all - don't see it that way. If you want to just try it a few times. If you don't want to or are not bothered it doesn't matter anyway.

"I have no issues eating alone, I'm quite happy in my own company, gives me time to think. Plus I'm a Mexican food freak, so I'm sure people would get bored of the same thing hehe" You live near me - there isn't any decent Mexican restaurants local (or any at all really). Absolutely fuming about it tbh.

"I'm happy in my own company and happy to eat out alone. Done so many times in the past when single and/or traveling. I enjoy nice food, drink and service and see no shame or embarrassment about earing out alone. I remember being away on a works course in London about 15 years. I was going out for dinner when the male colleague who was attending with me asked if he could come. We were on rates for food and supplementary expenses. So we left the hotel to find a nice restaurant. We asked for a table for two and they placed in a beautiful part of the restaurant. They came over a put a candle on the table (no one else had a candle). They were smiling a lot at us and insinuating things (in a lovely way). It was clear they had got the wrong impression about the nature of our being out together. I believe they thought we were on a first date. To be fair 15 years ago that was a fairly progressive attitude and quite sweet how they tried to make it romantic. I didn't say anything but the other guy was a traditional Protestant Northern Irish lad and when he clocked made sure the waiter knew the score (or maybe the lady doth protest too much). The waiter was very apologetic and we got a free drink out of it. Anyway that was a totally umessecerary cut away. Mr" That's cute and funny.

Learn to love yourself and others will see that in you. Have a splendid evening.

"I have eaten out alone a few times and have actually really enjoyed the experience. There’s no pressure to talk or have the other person ask you a question at the most inconvenient moment I.e when you’re busy chewing(!) I blooming well hate it when someone waits for you to load a glorious gob full into your mouth before then firing off an invariably bloody daft question! " ‘Are you enjoying that?’ - Well I would be if you’d bloody well allow me to!

"Do proper restaurants charge extra for one person seated? I read somewhere the posh ones do." I would not know about that. I tip generously with cash though so a server isn't getting screwed.

"I couldn’t think of anything worse than dinning on my own… the conversation would be so boring to say the least… like someone else said I’d feel people would think I’ve been stood up and all eyes would be on me. But on the good side (and in a nice way) reading some people’s responses to this who come across as super confident but would find it a struggle shows I’m not alone…" Yeah, I mean... it's a pretty personal thing anyway and it interests me with the people I know in real life - doesn't always reflect what you'd think. Bon appetite.

"Do it often with work. Some one recently showed me the way to improve it. Ask fellow solo diners if they want to share a table and have a random conversation and not stare at their phone for an hour or two. It often leads to a better dining experience " I mostly dine alone because I want to. I can see that being fun though!
