Decided to do the living room and I ABSOLUTELY hate everything that I've done. And for the life of me I don't know why I didn't stop, I just kept on painting and frigging painting

Yup I started my loving room ages ago, I have one and a bit painted walls and two still to paint and no curtains up etc etc. Off next week so kicking my butt to do it as I have new sofa covers and cushions that are sat in a box gathering dust waiting for it to be finished.... although I'm now changing my mind about what colour is going on what walls and hoping I have enough

I decorated my entire house last year with some major building works going on for at least 12 weeks as well.

My stress levels went through the roof but had no choice to keep going as my kids couldn't live in the mess.

Never again!

I will pay someone else in future.

Dulux Rock Salt colour works well with many darker colours .

I've used that against Dark Grey wallpaper in my living room and it's actually worked well

Love painting customers pick some bold colours a lot of feature walls and media walls but do all sorts from cheap rentals for land lords to million plus in Cheshire triangle and enjoy it last one guy wanted a complete black room ceiling and walls one before done whole house then interior designer came in and said do every room in different colour so had to repaint it all lol

I'm not saying use these specific paints, but here's someone who offers suggestions about colours that go with navy. (No affiliation, just I used his advice when working on my... ongoing decorating)

last job i estimated at 2-3 weeks...took just over 3 months and i still have snagging to sort out when i've finished doing outside 'summer' stuff. Turned in to a major league pain in the arse of sorting previous owners fuckups

Started my kitchen in Feb. Hands flared up meaning I couldn't physically hold a brush for a few days. Organised for someone to come in and "do" for me. 6 months later - my room done (if I ignore the piss poor job on part of one wall where they painted round furniture that USED to stand there, small room done (box room will never be decorated again as there's too much in). Bathroom whited and painted two coats - can still see the previous colour through and there's a tin of paint sat in it waiting. Hall, stairs and landing "nearly" finished, again, paint is waiting on hand. Living room has work to be completed too. Same guy WAS doing mums new money pit - but has now gone MIA on both of us! OP - I feel your pain.

Decorating our new extension and had glossed the skirting boards. Left them for 5 days, masked up with the delicate surface frog tape so I can emulsion the walls. Removed tape and a lot of gloss came off the tops of the skirting. Was not too happy and wondering if I did anything wrong?

Tear off the strips of tape and put them on your t shirt a few times to remove some of the sticky. Or get yourself a bit of straight plastic and use it as a cutting in guide.

Yep. Stripped the stair carpet, painted them, that then evolved to the entire hallway/landing/bannisters etc involving scaffolding, a broken mirror (yep - 7 years bad luck for me for sure!) and a lot of time, cost and effort involved.

And I won't be walking up them much moving forward........

Go to Dulux decorating centre, have many more colours, staff always helpful and paint is so much better. Sure they will help

Not easy to find professional ones that want to do a good job and pay attention to detail. So many people think that the can just pick up a brush and paint but requires skill. As you daid, you also need tp enjoy doing it

I would only tape up to stop the gloss from going onto a wall, if I had already glossed the skirting then I wouldn’t bother with tape, just paint the wall and any paint that goes onto the skirting could be wiped back with a damp cloth

(I’m not a qualified painter though!

Try using low tack masking tape, little more expensive but better for the task. Try using super grip primer too, designed to be used on pre painted wood, especially gloss

Yellow frog tape is the lowest tack but it’ll still rip chunks of paint off annoyingly. I only use it to protect carpets if I’m doing skirting boards or on walls if they want funky things done. Peeling it off always comes with a silent prayer!

One job I hate, but always think its so easy so have a go instead of paying a tradesman to do it properly

At the moment halfway through the lounge, done 3 walls and she is going to B & Q again this morning to chose her umpteenth bloody sample pot for one wall she wants a different colour

Drags me along because she wants a second opinion even though i dont give a toss. Finds fault on every wall i do because there is a bloody mark the size of a pin head i didnt fill, Then says the wall needs another coat of emulsion

when im totally pissed off with it, cue another argument

Not started on the skirtings yet

Use purdy brushes and rollers, costs a lot but worth it, cutting in is a lot easier, and rollers give an even finish, trust me ,they worth it

Hate decorating - my exs fault she once said we need to change the living room. I groaned as knew it wouldn’t be a quick job.

No no she said I won’t go overboard just the wallpaper on the feature wall. Bollocks I was thinking it’ll be everything and I’ll be lucky if I get away with the hall way.

Fuck me 8 weeks later the living room, dinning room, hallway had all been stripped to the brick re plastered and painted.

Kitchen re wired new fitted kitchen all new appliances.

Oh and guess what the furniture didn’t match the new decorating. 8 weeks of hell over the summer and £25000 for a feature wall. She wondered why I groaned.

After being in my flat for 15 years a few tell me it should be redecorated but I don't have the energy, money or the impetus.

I rarely have visitors and it's just somewhere to sleep, eat and pass time.

Also with the number of book shelves and built in wardrobes I have it's too much hassle to even think of.

I do it as a living... lots of pros and cons differing shades of a colour can be used pick 1 wall as a feature wall.... from experience if frontage is pulling paint off woodwork , it hasn't adhered... a good scuff first and undercoat should sort that
