Yesterday I finished an interesting book called Lone Women by Victor Lavelle set in about 1910 about a black woman who takes over a staked claim for land in Montana as a woman alone trying to survive. But then from that point it gets a bit weird, an interesting read and then today I started Out of Love by Hazel Hayes which is the story of a 5 year relationships told episodically in reverse order starting from the breakup and going back to when they first met, which is very good so far

Right now, The Children of Jocasta by Natalie Haynes. It's fantastic, I'm really enjoying the current trend of retelling mythos (a la Madeline Miller's Circe).

I need to find a couple of new books soon so I'm bumping this thread in the hope of more people sharing their current reads.

Yes, the trend in Greek myths books is great, the Madeline Miller books are fantastic but I have so many on my list including the Medusa one, Stone Blind also by Natalie Haynes

Home for Christmas, a Mills and Boonsy type book.

I'm on the lookout a deeper book set around Christmas if anyone knows of one?

You could try A Wedding in December by Anita Shreve, not specific Christmassy but set around then, she has a lot of great books too

I'm in a re-read of favourites phase. Finishing off the Mallorean series (fantasy) and about to start A Discovery of Witches from the All Souls trilogy (witches, vampires, time travel).

I’ve read a load of trashy chick lit recently - the little shop on the… type crap. Doesn’t require much concentration. But I need something decent as my brain is turning to mush.

Oh, I did also read The Line That Kills by Anthony Horowitz this week too. Still light and fluffy but more stabbed théâtre critics and less coy glances across a counter.

I am reading White Noise by Don Delilo

It has lines like this in it:

Your wifes hair is a living wonder... she has important hair.

I love the discovery of witches books, shame the TV series didn't do then justice. I read Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff recently which I really enjoyed although I didn't realise it was going to be a trilogy when I started and now have a long wait for the next two his Nevernight series is also really good but that's more fantasy girl who goes to a secret school for assasins.

Secret assassin school type book sounds right up my street! I read something similar by Shannon Mayer.

I'm the same. I get through a lot of chick books in and around some other stuff. Mostly as I read quickly and they tend to be 99p on kindle, else I'd be broke from book buying all the time which isn't great when I also seem to be buying a lot of lingerie since coming onto fab . Books in the last week or so have been Undoctored - Adam Kay, Mad Honey - Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boylan, The Secret Midwife - Soraya Lane and Anyone but him - Sheila O'Flanagan

Oh it's fantastic! You'll really enjoy them. I'm another person who was somewhat disappointed with the TV series sadly. My friend keeps on raving about ACOTAR - tempted to find a copy but I also don't want to hate it or be consumed by it.

I do love them, they're another reread (sorry I didn't make it very clear). Travelling through Clermont Ferrand and the Auvergne made me want to read them again.

I loved ACOTAR. That's another I should reread. Plus all the other books I haven't read even once. The tsundoku is real.
