Somewhere In The Ether…

Good folks - I wish to evoke the inner film critic in you all Simply state what the last film you watched was and give it your own rating out of ten.

You can even write a little review if you like.

I’ll get the old metaphorical ball a’rolling: I saw, Bull on Netflix.

‘Bullshit’ would possibly have been a more apt title for this rather grimy and not particularly enjoyable revenge flick which was hardly helped any by a particularly stupid, tacked on twist at the very end.

I’ll give it a five based purely upon some of the performances (which were admittedly decent) and gore scenes though as I’m feeling generous.

Over to you

"Rewatched The Lost Boys on bbc I player at the weekend.

Excellent choice - funny too

Kiefer Sutherland at his evil best.

I watched 'The midnight sky' a few nights ago.

Well when I say watched, it got turned off after about 45mins as it was so slow and dull.

Wouldn't recommend it.

3/10

I watched Teen Wolf over the weekend.

It's about a teen who turns into a werewolf due to some hereditary reason that isn't really explained.

He becomes really good at basketball but pretty soon everyone gets fucked off with the wolf, so he plays the final game as the human teen and they win in the end.

I especially liked the bit where he goes into the hot girl's changing room and it is implied that she fucks the wolf.

Five stars.

It only lost a point due to the soundtrack not being as good as the previous films.

8/10 The Professor

Purely by chance I stumbled across this film starring Johnny Depp. For a film only 5 years old, it's a step away from the eccentric characters he's been known for in recent times and shows a real depth to the lead actors skills. Although with the excess drinking and drug use, it did leave me wondering if he was character acting or going through a rough patch.

The film follows the story of a college professor diagnosed with cancer and the way in which he deals with it. With a slight feeling of Dead Poets Society, interspersed with humour, a lot more alcohol, swearing and a bit of fuckery as well.

A slightly dark but thought provoking and entertaining journey.

I watched Chevalier, which is a biopic about Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint George, a composer who was a contemporary of Mozart and one of the earliest black composers of note.

I'd give it 6/10.

I think it's great that films about things like this can be made and was looking forward to seeing it, but I was a bit disappointed. It starts off with Mozart giving a concert and Chevalier challenging him to a violin-playing duel. Clearly this just wouldn't happen, and in the ensuing duel, Chevalier plays various blues clicks, which is just a bit silly.

Then it goes back to Chevalier's early life and follows him through to success and becoming acquainted with queen Marie Antoinette. I felt that there were some costume-drama clichés in there and tried a bit too much to be a Jane Austin film. It could have done with a better script.

The Banshees of Inisherin - had this recommended by quite a few people many of whom raved how much they loved it. Honest review? I found it dull. Great actors and beautiful scenery and, yes, of course I "got" all the analogy with the Civil War and all that. But sadly it just didn't hold my attention.

But hey that's just me, am sure it has its fans on here and that's great.

5/10

Positives:

Quirky concept,

Great lead characters

Enthusiastic and uplifting singing and dancing.

Amusing satire delivered well.

Negatives:

Jumbled message about the patriarchy presented in a clunky way.

A bit preachy

Flawed logic I'm the storyline cinnecting barbie world and the real world.

The whole barbie concept is at odds with current gender ideas.

Wild child 2/10

1 for the idea about an American girl going to a British boarding school so of course she would have to learn their mentalities personalities and characters which is a good idea for a story or film

2 The only time I laughed is when she pretended to be an adult with a few of her classmates on a school trip. They tried to buy bottles of wine out of a shop
