The two are different: you can't have a private discussion in the forå. The forå is for general consumption. For chatting...you send a private message.

I do both.

I'll chat to everyone on the forum, if the topic is of interest but I generally wouldn't message 1 on 1 with someone I wasn't interested in as a potential meet, mainly because it can be seen as me being interested when I'm not. Having said that, I've chatted to a few women via private message about different things.
