Had an 'interesting' day yesterday!

Following a meeting with the boss found that restructuring is imminent and that our team (currently 6) will be dropping to 4 soon - impending redundancies, albeit not on a grand scale! There's no option of natural attrition or anyone jumping for early retirement due to the ages involved. As a result we're all up against each other regardless of which part of the country we currently work in - and the changes will result in larger areas to cover and increased workload for those remaining - for no extra dosh!

I then got home to be informed by my housemate who's dad owns the property (and lives abroad) that due to the shit state of finances in Europe he's decided to sell the house to release much needed cash - handing his daughter a deposit to buy a flat so she can continue to run his restaurant over here! And he already has an interested buyer lined up! Great for her - not so good for me!

So I went to the pub last night and contemplated life over a few jars and decided that although not an ideal situation to be in - there's still ups as well as downs!

I'm pretty sure (according to my boss anyway!) that I'm potentially the least likely to get the shove at work! Definite Up. But nothing's certain! Definite down!

If I keep my job my territory will increase, meaning ill be doing more travel which in turn opens up the possibilities to meet new folk on Fab from different locations. Definite Up! However, I'll be spending less time near some regular friends. Definite down!

If I move out of my house I could potentially look at going solo and being able to accommodate! Serious Up! My bills and expenses would more than double as I'm paying sod all right now. Serious down!

If I move - I could change location. See previous up/down argument re work location.

So after contemplating these and other up/down arguments - I decided not to worry or stress - at least for now as nothing is cast in stone yet - and have a couple more jars (and some jaegerbombs).

And after waking up this morning with a sore head shouting 'fuck' in a Hugh Grant manner a la the 'oversleeping moment' in Four Weddings - I've come to this conclusion!

What will be will be! I'm healthy (wouldn't say fit exactly!!), have my friends and family, am having a whale of a time as always on Fab - and let's face it - there are many people worse off than me.

So when something in life seems like a definite 'down' - look closer and there may just be a great big 'up' just around the corner!!

Obi, I've got 15 years on you and arrived at your current state of near-Nirvana many years ago. At the end of the day, we don't really have that much influence on things that affect the direction of our daily lives. What happens, happens. Although we have all been indoctrinated in the last few decades to be as 'thrusting and dynamic' as we can, the reality is actually that that is just a way of diverting our attention from the things which are really shaping our lives.

As you say, life is just one merry-go-round of ups and downs... savour the 'ups', and ride-out the 'downs'... and at the end of it all just hope and pray your health and well-being are as intact as possible. No point in fighting it and stressing out about it. You're a long time dead.....

And that is the end of Philosophy Hour for today, children....

It's so refreshing to see what could be a "woe is me" situation being handled in such a philisophical manner. Yes life has it's ups and downs and it's so easy to get swallowed up by negativity sometimes, but as you say life is short and each sticky situation will be resolved when they happen in one way or another.

I hope all works out well for you without too much stress, but in the meantime keep on having fun and looking on the bright side x

Given up with 'stress' - there's rarely any point if things are beyond your control - as is generally the case with its things these days!!

Worse case scenario ill have way more free time on my hands but no car or money to fuel it to fill those hours!!

Still - there's always Jeremy Kyle to watch!!
