What is the difference between love and lust?

Jump to newest

From the land of haribos.

I was listening to something interesting about it, they were discussing what the difference between lust and love was.

They were giving few examples of it like that how lust is passionate and exciting, endearing and satisfying and how love is is pure and perfect among other examples.

Another one was how the younger generation that are exploring sex is confusing love with lust.

I liked the examples that they gave and one thing they said which I totally agree with is "lust fades, love is eternal!" that is so true.

What do you think about the difference is and can you give more examples or do you also agree with the above?

Lust is the desire and crave of being intimate with a person

Love is wanting to learn a person and have experiences in and out of an intimate setting e.g. holidays, share interests with one another, do activities together and introduce to family and friends

“….I liked the examples that they gave and one thing they said which I totally agree with is "lust fades, love is eternal!" that is so true.”

I’d wholeheartedly disagree with that. Love can fade too.

It’s hard to answer really because love means different things to different people.

Lust is more sexual based though (to me).

I'm greedy, I want both. Sadly love sometimes seem to come at the price of forgetting lust.

Until the time sparks fly and fireworks happen with both, I'm loving lust

There’s also a difference from being in love and loving someone for me

I still love my ex wife. The mother of my children. The person who stood by me and taught me so much about myself

I am in love with her. No. Hence she’s my ex wife. People change and can grow apart, things don’t have to end because people cheat erc, they literally run their course.

Lust can always be there. Sometimes when you look at a partner who you’ve been with however long and think “yes, right now I would…”

I like having both, for me lust is when you want to rip their clothes off. Love is when you want to go to bed in their arms every night, walk up to their face every morning, have them hold you when your days are a bit shitty and be your best friend.

Lust fades sure but it can be kept going I definitely still lust over the Mr & he's my everything I'm lucky to have both.

Lust is easy to find, love is practically impossible.

A lot of people confuse lust and infatuation with love.

It is possible to have both with a partner as lust can turn into love after all these years I can safely say I still lust and love Gareth.

It sure can be this way. Believe it to be healthy to lust over someone you are in love with.

Lust for me is craving for the physical. Love is the craving for the whole person. Both can fade.

I am not at all fond of this dualistic approach, technically it is splitting. Lust can be as pure&perfect as love, and in fact also a conduit to love.

They both are drives we have inside us, they are our ourselves/out lifeforce. Certain people may inspire us to express it more strongly, or direct it to them. But if it doesn't spring from within you, it won't happen, no matter who is in front of you. So I'd say they are both pure and eternal when thinking of them in the abstract. Both flawed and time-dependent when thinking of them as something we feel towards other beings.

I do like the phrase "in lust" when bond is nascent or primarily/entirely based on physical attraction.

You're such a romantic! LOL

But I couldn't agree more with the comment above yours - about many divorced folk finding out the difference in hindsight.

One comes first I would assume, read somewhere it takes months for deep feelings to develop, not sure how true it is we all probably have a mate that fell for people instantly, but I’d assume most relationships start with lust and develop into love
