Can you recommend an underrated tourist attraction?

Cambridge (She/They And They/Them)

Inspired by another thread I’d like to recommend Chislehurst Caves.

Miles and miles of underground caves which housed tens of thousands of people in the war. Mind blowing. Cheap entry price and frequent guided tours.

Can you recommend something people might not have heard of?

I’ll look those up. Thanks!

It might be worth adding a one line description to recommendations.

EDINBURGH

Craigmillar Castle in Edinburgh. A ruin but one you can walk around and climb up into. Great atmosphere! Mary Queen of Scots lives there for a bit. Is actually much nicer than Edinburgh Castle in my opinion.

You also have the Speedwell cavern not far from it.

went on a school trip to both many years ago.

Speedwell cavern is an old leadmine that they do a guided tour by boat.

The Falconry Centre in Hagley, Stourbridge was absolutely fantastic. Entry was just £6 and that included and hour-long flying demo with about a dozen birds. Amazing.

One for little kids - Bewilderwood in Norfolk. Rope bridges and slides on a spectacular scale in the forest, all tied together with fairy stories of elves and goblins and crocodiles. Magical for under 10s.

I love the sea so two to recommend. Aberlady Bay or Gullane Beach in East Lothian. Two absolutely beautiful beaches.

People come to Edinburgh and rarely venture out but the coast is so worth it and really not that far away. Infact Edinburgh actually has a beach too, (Portobello) and people often seem surprised when I tell them this!

"The Crooked Man."

Dating from 1395, The Crooked House in Lavenham sits at the heart of Britain's best-preserved medieval village and is the inspiration behind the famous nursery rhyme “there was a crooked man…”

Is it this you mean?

"Williamson Tunnels, Liverpool. always wanted to see these it's on our to do list "

Definitely give them a go, I enjoyed it and found it interesting and took two teenage boys aged 12 & 16 who also both thought it was 'okay' so quite the glowing recommendation from teenagers

If you're round this way I'd take a look at Sefton Park and Birkenhead Park, both beautiful parks, the latter of which inspired Central Park in New York!

Also, the Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead is a relatively unheard of gorgeous petite art gallery, and if you go to Port Sunlight they have another stunning gallery and a village like Cadbury Bournville in Birmingham, this one made by Lord Lever.

And for a place a bit further afield, Rivington Pike up near Clitheroe is a Victorian folly on a hill, but in the woods below there is like a lost world, I thought it was great! You could also go see the replica of Liverpool Castle up by there too. All built by rich Victorian Lever. All small world links eh?

And add a ferry 'cross the Mersey, plus a host of museums and other galleries and if you go at the right time of year, the Minton tiled floor of St George's Hall.

And no, we don't work for the tourist board
