My mind changes so many times while I'm writing something that I change the wording and structure of everything enough for me not to judge too harshly what others type.

If I understand others, that's my core interest. My own written English, including grammar, is often failing . I often post when I, or my eyes, are tired and not paying full attention. I guess others are similar.

I think intelligence is sexy. Spelling and grammar aren't really indicators of that. However, what I will say is that if I cannot communicate effectively with someone, then I can't build a rapport. I am not using fab as a hook up site though so the ones who just want a shag probably only look skin deep and don't care.

For me, it would depend on the form of communication. If it was a letter from a solicitor, for example, I would expect perfect spelling and grammar. If it was a post on here, the only things that would bother me would be uninteresting content, and whether I could understand the post. Not being native English, I have to google some regional words in dialects I'm unfamiliar with. The continuous discussions of bread roll names fascinates me

I am guilty of text talk.

Grammar, spelling and punctuation go well out of the window as soon as my phone is in my hand.

Also known to abbreviate abbreviations.

Most of my messages are half legible....midweek anyway!

But weekends well anything goes and I am dropping full stops exclamation marks and hash tags all over the show lol

We got uptight about it at one point . We still do - but sometimes you have to allow for unforeseen circumstances.

We chatted to someone once and their spelling varied badly. Turns out she is partially sighted.

We felt awful. We’ve been judging her, and perhaps others unfairly.

I have lived outside the UK most my life. I often use the international spellings now rather than the British. But language evolves, if it didn't we would still be embroidery tapestries or cave painting.

Colour and color are the same thing, just spelt differently by different cultures.

My own spelling, grammar and puncuation are generally rather good. However, this is not really reflected on here. Sometimes, when I look back at what I posted,I notice lots of errors due to speed, the predictor and the small keys (my fingers are perfectly formed and I did not want to call them fat). It used to bother me and I would delete and repost whenever possible. Now I am not really bothered. I am also mindful of tbe fact that other people may have dyslexia or other reasons that make tneir own mistakes. Who am I to judge anyone without knowing them and their circumstances? I wouldn't. If it was a major issue for me, I would find a polite way to withdraw.

"Not really. Actually no, I don't. As long as I can understand what's been said, I'm not going to rake someone over the coals for the odd mistake, we all do them and language is... creative? Expressive? I'd much rather read personality than robotic perfection.

What does dry my vagina up to desert level? People correcting others. I find it so fucking gauche and tedious.

And no, that's not a reference to Fluffy's post above. I'm talking about when it's used for point scoring. "

Haha me and ghandi have a long running joke about his grammar and spelling (always at his expense)

Merseyside

Not bothered by grammar as you don’t know what’s going on with someone but can’t stand use of silly words like youse or that type of stuff that’s a turn off

So it's ok to not want to meet someone because their dick isn't enough inches or they're not tall enough or they're Asian (I've seen all of these defended as preferences) but if you find the way they communicate a turn off - you're a Nazi?

To repeat - no-one has ever said it's ok to point out grammar mistakes or anything else. The OP asked if it's ok to be turned off by bad grammar. And I agree with him. And like any other reason for not wanting to meet someone - I don't tell them that I don't find them attractive for example - there is NO need to criticise anybody. In public or in private.

PS it's pretty easy to tell that someone speaks English as a second language because of the way they use English

"Nope not at all some people could have dyslexia and you could be cutting yourself short from meeting a awesome person just because little spelling mistakes here and there

It's not about spelling...

??? Your post literally states that

He was quite specifically talking about grammar. No mention of spelling.

Grammer and spelling are one in the same same with sentences make up sometimes people brains don’t function right that way at all "

Grammar and spelling are different by the sheer fact that's a fact

You can be an atrocious speller but can get it right grammatically and you could be the best speller in the world but fail grammatically. Completely different

London

I normally don't care much about the one or other typo, but I noticed here in ireland it's really bad with a lot of people. Slightly annoys me, but not that I would judge anyone really
