It is not a busy period right now, so there should be sufficient time to get one within a month, IMHO.

I got mine back in a month. Some countries won`t let you in if you don't have 6 months on it but Spain isn't one of them.

just copied this off the FCO website, last updated 30.01.13 for Spain

Your passport must be valid for the proposed duration of your stay. No additional period of validity beyond this is required. However, it is always sensible to have a short period of extra validity on your passport in case of any unforeseen delays to your departure. You do not have to wait until your old passport expires to apply to renew it. Any time left on your old passport when you apply will be added to your new passport, up to a maximum of nine months.

"Some countries say you must have 6 months left on your passport"

That's usually countries which offer 6 months admission.

The thinking is that, if you're passport expires whilst you're there, they don't actually have legal proof of where to send you back to.

In some countries you can't travel on your passport if there's less than six months on if after your return.

Northampton

Cant see your location but you can renew in person at Peterborough.

You do have to make an appointment

Do remember that some countries insist on 6 momths minimum on a passport for you to gain entry i think.

If you use the post office checking service (they will also take the pic for you) at larger post offices you get your passport back quicker. I think they say within two weeks, but I've used it twice and both times got mine back in under a week.
