Self deprecating comments

I have gone to the same barbers for years, even though its not the closet one to me. Because of this I get on quite well with the female owner who does my hair. We chat about various things, sometimes light, sometimes heavy. She knows I suffer with my mental health but not the details.

While I was there this morning she mentioned the passing of Sinead O'Connor and this led to a discussion about mental health and people's different reactions to it. As part of the chat I mh mentioned to her about my passive suicidal thoughts and because I currently don't act on them, I am not seen as a major risk so little my GP can do. The obvious hope is that if it goes past the thinking stage, I have enough sense to reach out. At the end of the chat I apologised fur turning the chat dark, which got the response that I could talk to her anytime.

I then went to have lunch with a friend, who had just come out of hospital because of his own mental health issues. I have known this person for years and Friday lunch is a tradition going back years. This was the second hospital stay since I known him, last time being six years ago. That time I only found out through a relative of his dropping a message into the local pub. Supposedly when we reconnected, I said that initially I had thought he had just got bored of our chats and decided not to show up.

Even last night on the noc thread here (which I really enjoy) my parting message before going to bed was 'thanks for putting up with me'.

These are just a few examples of the self deprecating comments I make, as if I feel I have to apologise to people for being nice to me or letting me talk. Maybe I am so used to people making such comments, I make them myself first as an attempt at humour or to reduce the impact of such statements.

Never apologise for vocalising your thoughts and concerns on here. It cab really help.

I know from recent experience what an amazingly supportive community this is and there will always be someone there willing to check in and make sure you're OK.

It's been a revelation over the last few weeks just how caring some people who are either total strangers or just people you've bounced off in the forums really are.

There are some absolute diamonds on Fab.

You are ingrained into the fabric and soul of the Nocturnal. If you didn't grace our presence then we would be all the poorer without you.
