Went to a property today to do a job and the mum was vial to the daughter verbally abusive so have reported it. But dose that bring more harm to the daughter. But felt I had to do something.

Duty of care, report and let the investigators do the rest. Its brave to speak up. More people should.

You did the right thing, there might well be a history of it.

I work with vulnerable young people & we're taught that safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.

if what you witnessed worried you then you've absolutely done the right thing. If it was a one-off & there haven't been any other issues, she may be spoken to & will hopefully learn from her mistake. If this has been reported by others too, you may have just saved the daughter from a life of abuse. It's always best to trust your gut

Better to speak up and be wrong than to ignore it and someone gets hurt.

Don't doubt yourself O.P. You did the right thing.

It cannot make things worse for the child. Only the mother can do that.

I can't say if I 100% would have found something vile or abusive as you haven't explained what was said but never doubt yourself. Always report.

It's always best to report these things. I wouldn't be sure who to or where in the situation you describe. When I was working we had clear guidelines on what to look out for and a dedicated person to report to who said they'd rather have a hundred 'not sure if it's anything' reports than miss one who really needed help.

You absolutely did the right thing!

When it comes to safeguarding children EVERYONE has a duty of care

Even if it was a one off, you didn't know the context or you thought the situation was worse than it actually was it's always better to be safe than sorry!

He doesn't need to as an adult we know a child's mind is more fragile than us as adults.

People are too hung up on feeling the need to voice their own opinion and he was the witness not us

This.

Also, by the time someone feels they can speak up, it's generally waaaaay past the 'supposed to' point because we're all afraid of speaking out of turn as society has it that we're damned if we do, damned if we don't.

Just be on the right side of your soul, of history xx

For the people who have said there is not enough information I apologise. But I can say I was not prepared to enter the property on my own as an adult man and only left once the girl had got out and got in to another flat so in my mind was safe at that point in time.

This is now logged so hopefully something can be addressed.
