It's not that fast. Muhammad Ali said that he was so fast , that he could turn off the light switch. And be in bed before the light went out.

"What's the speed of dark?"

Dark is always there. It is the natural state of the universe.

Darkness travels at the speed of light. More accurately, the speed of light leaving. Light needs energy to exist. Darkness does not.

Though, if dark is the opposite of light, then it must move slowly because it's heavy.

If it takes the light from the Sun about 8 minutes to travel to Earth how long does it take the darkness of the night sky to travel here?

Faster. I can switch my light off in about 3 seconds, and I have to get off my sofa.

Or.. Would it still appear to move away from you at the speed of light, as light's funny like that

Electrons in a copper wire travel approximately 3 centimetres a minute.

2 trains both going 100 miles an hour towards each other, will approach each other at a speed of 200 miles an hour.

2 things going at the speed of light towards on another will approach each other at no more than the speed of light.

"671 million miles per hour. "

Eric Idle begs to differ.

Our universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding,

In all of the directions it can whiz;

As fast as it can go, at the speed of light, you know,

Twelve million miles a minute and that's the fastest speed there is.

I think it was Professor Cox who said the Universe could expand faster than light. So we would never be able to reach it

What i want to know is…if light is a bunch of photons all bouncing around…what happens when you switch the lamp off? Where do all those photons go.

We see stuff because they are reflected and we pick them up with our eyes.

So, when the lamp goes out, there must still be photons flying around right?

Odd

"If I could travel at the speed of light minus 1 mph. And I pointed a torch forward and switched it on.... would i see the light moving forward at 1 mph ?yes "

Hmmm it would be relative to your speed but i guess the torch would be travelling at lightspeed-1 also so the light emitted from the torch would still travel at light speed relativey so youd see the torch come on as there is no differential between the light source velocity and yours - im guessing.. but its the relativity bit i think. Correct me if my laymans logic is flawed in some way?

I was thinking what would it look like to an observer. If you could see a train going past at the speed of light and someone on board turned on a torch

Pointing forward

You would die because to see the torch you would have to be in front of a train travelling at light speed and calling at clapham junction basingstoke rugby milton keynes birmingham new street theres still no

Two chances but you backed the wrong horse

Speed of light is constant for all observers regardless of speed

There is no absolute frame of reference against which c is measured
