I think climate change will make things more bearable for the homeless, but it isn't the cause.

The last surge in homeless was due to conservative policies concerning housing and the last high rises in interest rates saw low to middle income earners fall into arrears leading to repossession and homelessness.

Now the middle low to middle earners have nothing left to take, it is now the turn of middle low to middle average earners.

And what your seeing is the threshold of the middle low renters being pushed out of the market.

9% only accounts for the homeless one can see, there is a underbelly of homelessness one cannot see, as example my mate loses his flat and I put him up, he is still homeless but not counted due to me accommodating him.

Also family members putting up other members etc, homelessness shows a breakdown in society and equality and has no place in our times except if one is tory.

The migrants have go to go somewhere, come here for a better life and end up on the streets cos they can't afford anywhere

Is more HMO accommodation a potential answer? I'm not sure

I think you could open your home up for migrants, i thought the idea of mooring a ship in weymouth harbour was excellent as long as they wernt allowed to disembark

Two things I think are contributing to this;

1) Conservative policies regarding housing are driving the number of homeless up.

2) Developers building “Luxury” flats and instead of selling them at reasonable prices or renting them out at reasonable prices, they’re sitting on them empty for a few years.

There’s lots of developments in London sitting in London because the prices are extortionate for what they are.

Also the definition of homeless keeps changing , it now includes people in temporary accommodation and people unhappy with their accommodation. Like someone in an emotionally abusive relationship or overcrowded who cannot find alternative accom is included in the homeless statistics.

It’s like the definition of poverty and disabled, it’s in the interests of activists and charities to make the figures high to raise awareness.

None of this changes the fact that UK needs to build more houses , overhaul private renting and make more affordable housing options. It’s a massive failure of governments present & past
