I've never supported a Premier League team but I think I'm old enough to pick one now (53). With the help of a swinging site obvs. My dad supports West Ham and obvs thinks I should pick them!

Gorn, sell me your team!

It has to be The Toon. We’ve got potential to be massive in the next few years so jump on board before anyone can call you a glory supporter.

I don't have a team myself (so I'm unbiased) but just in terms of enjoying the quality of football you'll see as a fan, I think there are a 2 standout choices:

* Manchester City: perhaps the boring pick, but the football is just exciting to watch. You'll see your team play beautiful football and win a lot of matches if you pick this one.

* Brighton and Hove Albion: again, exciting football with an amazing manager - probably won't win as many matches as City just because of the talented squad City have, but even their draws and losses will be enjoyable.

Both teams are in Europe (UCL and UEL respectively). Both have some sort of blue in their home colours which is always a bonus. You can be cheeky and pick both as they'll not be competing with each other.

Do they? I thought everyone picked their team at the age of 3

I'd like to cheer a team on, win or lose. Not sure I could choose just based on whether they always win. But also not bottom of the league. This is harder than I thought!

People gravitate to the most successful team, years ago you supported your local team but most people want to be associated with winners so hence the top teams getting support, its why i don't support a domestic football team anymore

Never followed a particular team but kept an interest

First was Aston villa as they had quite a few republic of Ireland players, then Leicester as lived there when came back to the UK.

West Ham was the first game I saw live in 1989/1990

Nah, not the same. It's nowhere near Tottenham for a start!

Prepare for geekdom: Arsenal tube was named after club (changed from Gillespie Road) after pressure from their then manager, back in the 30s. No idea about West Ham tube, but assume it's much less interesting and noteworthy.

Newcastle upon Tyne

"Do you have a favourite place that you've been that have a football team?

I haven't been to quite a few cities, but maybe Newcastle or Brighton. "

Two good choices and where my loyalties lie, being from Brighton and having lived in Newcastle for many years. Brighton and Hove Albion have a incredible scouting and development ability for identifying potential players and developing them to their full potential, while allowing them to move on to other clubs at big profits, knowing that they can replace them with other players that they are developing. They play exciting football under a very talented Head Coach. Some would say that Brighton is a team that exceeds its theoretical abilities.

Newcastle, by contrast, now have a massive spending budget at their disposal, which is only limited by the financial fair play rules. It is a club that is definitely going places, with a phenomenal fan base and has an extremely talented Head Coach who is very much a people person and takes an holistic approach with his players that has created a united team, both on and off the pitch, without big egos. Get yourself along to St James' Park and experience one of the best atmospheres in the country - you'll be hooked!

You are all missing one team out! The only team to support is Bournemouth!

Rose through the leagues to the premiership. The mighty cherries who have beaten most of the other teams in the league for such a small club that is something!

The only team to support!

Traditionally, when someone has no real interest in football, they chose man United, but they no longer win things.

Where do you live? Who are your local teams?

And does it have to be a premiership team? You could get ahead of the pack and choose a Saudi team and start watching their games

Gorn, sell me your team! Go for the most successful man city thats what most people do

Do they? I thought everyone picked their team at the age of 3

I'd like to cheer a team on, win or lose. Not sure I could choose just based on whether they always win. But also not bottom of the league. This is harder than I thought!People gravitate to the most successful team, years ago you supported your local team but most people want to be associated with winners so hence the top teams getting support, its why i don't support a domestic football team anymore

No, I don't have any interest in winning and nothing else. It seems to be more a tribal thing. And I'd like to have a tribe. "

Stay away from the PL. Choose a small (ish), local, community club - watch matches that don’t get moved to suit Sky Sports, stand close enough to the action so your screams can be heard, help out with the Bovril and pies, become a part of it - then you’ll have a tribe.

That sounds like too much work for me, to be honest. I've a friend who's a big fan of the local team, knows a few players, goes to matches. She's grown up here and it's part of her history. I don't share any of that.

Near Falkirk

I think some great arguments for most on here, some points I never thought of !!

If you have zero clue and zero intention of committing then I’d side with picking either a colour you like, a city you like or just a team that generally wins !!!

Not much help there tbh lol, oh just to add, maybe choose an underdog that’s coming up this season lol

Maybe you could just run a Poll and see how it turns out !?!

Happy Choosing

"I don't know if anyone else has said this , but you should support the team whose ground is closest to the house you grew up in.

What utter twaddle. You pick a team you have a connection to but never Liverpoo.

C

I'd certainly not choose Liverpoo!! "

Well I like you more already. Hating them gives you a plethora of healthy choices.

Would you like to watch good football and win or good football and lose? Are you bothered too much by losing? I would watch some matches of different teams this coming season and see who sticks.

Walking down the only road I've ever known!

Make your dad happy and support the hammers, you will have another connection and you could go to the game together too.

wolverhampton

There can only be one answer and that is Aston Villa. There are loads of United’s and City’s, some Towns, a couple of Wanderers/Albions but only one Villa.

Plus the future King is a fan who goes to games and Tom Hanks is a fan!

I'm not British

I didn't ask what nationality you were, pick the team who are closest to the home you grew up

I didn't grow up in Britain

So where did you grow up?

Nowhere with a premier league team!

Yes we realise that by the fact that you said you didn't grow up in Britain but no matter where you grew up on the world there is a premier fc closer than any of the others!

Eh? Where I was born, the closest team would have been Wrexham, followed by Chester and Tranmere. I support one of those clubs to this very day but none are Premier League teams and never have been. Not following your logic. "

Me either. Am I supposed to calculate the number of miles precisely?

I'm gonna ask my dad if he did this to choose West Ham.

I'm researching. Why did no-one tell me Brentford are called the Bees? (Why do I find that so appealing, it's so girly )

And Sheffield were just promoted. How long have they been out of the PL?

Missin’ Yo’ Kissin’

I support Nottingham Forest! Notts County are on the other side of The Trent.

In the past I have seen both teams... You know when one is home or the other away.

Seen great managers: Sam Alladyce, Neil Warnock, Harry Basset, Frank Clarke, Old big 'ead Brian Clough. Now we have Steve Cooper - Brilliant Manager!

We were so close to relegation this last season..... Pulled the rabbit from our bums (ahem). Cough & a noisy fart!

Perhaps you could use the Sir Alex Ferguson method? In the run up to title race he coined it "squeeky bum brown trouser moment!" That way you will never be constipated!!! No, no need for roughage or fruit....It can be applied to the top or bottom of the table too.

Oh, how I yearn for mid table mediocrity....

Prince William supports ASTON VILLA! Aston Villaaa?????? He's got the gunners, Spurs, Chelsea? Did someone drop him on his head?

Lots of Irish people supported Man Utd cos of Dennis Irwin & Roy Keane & a successful club.

Fod for thought? Or food for fart? You choose.
