So the Tudors killed the last king to die in battle-and Richard the Third died fighting like a tiger- and then they set about a hatchet job on the reputation of Richard the Third after his death.

My partner remarked that it was a bit shameful and a bloody cheek, given that Henry the Eighth died in bed of being a fat arse!

aye but Henry VIII didn't kill Richard, nore did he do the hatchet job either.

Richard Was a hunchback after all and had an arrow in his back (were he fighting bravely his wounds would have been to his front.......)

Besides Richard WAS a usurper as were the rest of the yorkists, they stole the throne from the house of Lancaster.....

Ha ha ... Well I have plenty of booty to shake, so I'm all for curves on girls and guys. But then I don't axe people for their minor misdemeanours, so he deserves the f word. He was a meany. An important and historically significant meany, but a meany nonetheless.

I know henry didn't kill richard but the tudor dynasty were the victors who went on to tell history and so a certain amount of misinformation seems to have been circulated about richard.

I thought that arrow turned out to be a nail from the roman period ..

Wrong. Henry IV usurped the trhone from Richard II and had him bumped off, that left the House of York as the senior claimant to the Throne of England by right of descent through the sons of Edward III.

The 'arrow' was a nail from an earlier deposit and anyway he was wearing full plate harness so no arrow would penetrate that.

Also, scoliosis does NOT give a hunch.

I spent ten years doing Wars of the Roses re-enactments answering stuff like this!

even his Tudor opponents at the time, as in those on the actual field at Bosworth remarked that he fought 'bravely and ably'..

it was'nt an arrow, it was a nail..

by accounts he led a charge to kill Henry himself, killed his standard bearer and then was himself killed with several wounds sustained..

foolish perhaps, brave probably yes..

Ancient history has never really appealed to me. However, we watched the programme last night and were enthralled. Extremely informative if a little sensationalist but well worth watching.

And as far as I can see, the Tudor dynasty that succeeded the Plantagenets set about spinning some spurious rumours about Dick, and over the centuries some of these rumours have been cemented, in the popular imagination, into fact.

Already the arguments have started about where to house his bones.

I wonder where the king would like to be laid to rest. A great coup for Leicester if they can keep him, but perhaps he always wanted to be planted in York Minster.

I had my first meet from this site in York Minster. That was one high risk fumble!

There's already a thread about where to bury him under discussion but to recap, Leicester Council only granted permission to dig on the premise that if Richard was found he would remain in Leicester. It may well take an act of parliament to bury him elsewhere.

Watched the Channel4 car park 'documentary' last night..must have made the Uni experts squirm!..a stand up comic, and a screenwriter, who surprise, surprise will be making a film about it! dominated the piece. The staged scenes were bordering on comical, half expected Victoria Wood to pop up.

Of course it will have ensured funding for their department, and publicity for Leicester at a time when funding is tight, so can't really blame them.

Look forward to reading the peer reviews when published
