"For the most part I find the discussion of it a distraction from what I'm trying to achieve. More about claiming sides than anything. I try to be aware of the marginalised and minimise my harm to them, to do better, to help those who need it. That, plus the fact that I find most "anti woke" discussion repulsive ( personal preference is sacrosanct )... I suspect that makes me woke. Mostly though, I'm just busy trying to do better." Nicely put.

In some contexts it means aware of marginalisation (particularly racial, although I think the meaning has organically expanded). In other context it seems to be just another insult. I like to substitute "poppyhead" in my head in those contexts.

In order to consider yourself to be woke then you have to steal the term from a different group who are supposed to be less privileged than yourselves and thus making you unwoke. English is a huge mishmash of terms from Latin, French and other languages - if that were the case we'd all walk around not communicating at all. Not great reasoning tbh...

Equal pay, equal opportunities, equal representation etc. no discrimination against women. I think the majority agree. " Dog whistling is a racist phrase used by racists. You could argue I'm being so myself if you say I'm associating rednecks with white people who aren't very bright/enlightened educationally or socially. I was however using it in a non race prejudiced way for people who aren't very bright and who are hostile to the social/economic/political issues which ironically usually prejudice against them and limit their life opportunities also. But I accept your summation. Sometimes you just have to call a spade a spade though and burn in hell for the good cause. The problem we have here is you have 2 ends of the spectrum but one end won't see it adapting and are desperate to stick to the 'original definition', only its not the original definition because that would be 'past of wake'.

"To say you're "anti woke" literally means you're against fairness, empathy and you are racially or socially prejudice... In your opinion. By definition, actually. " No, not by definition. The OED defines it as "?aware of social and political issues, especially racism" and the Cambridge dictionary defines its meaning as "aware, especially of social problems such as racism and inequality". Note the part where it says "aware", not "against". Being "aware" doesn't mean you're for or against, it literally just means that you're aware. In short, it's a fairly meaningless description of somebody, its definition having been hijacked by both extremes of the political spectrum. Like many words, the definition changes depending on who's using it. It's just another way to cause division. Bess x

"Can those who are anti-woke (if they're brave enough) just tell us? I usually like to work these things out myself, but anyone who wants to out themselves as a conscious redneck(contradiction in terms I know) then it may save some of us the bother of working out who to be repulsed by and we can avoid all your future anti-human/planet postings. Ta very muchly. Surely you are not with the Redneck derogatory term. Can't say you are "Woke" classifying certain people with dog whistling. Try better next time. Just be human. Dog whistling is a racist phrase used by racists. In a world destroyed by the climate change created by big corporations and enabled by rampant consumerism and the blithe selfishness of the sleepwalking (and I suppose, by extension, therefore, conventionally anti woke) ignorant. Anyway. ULEZs. Whatcha think? Or on a cross surrounded by people with white hoods. Who don't realise they're wearing white hoods. " Dog whistling isn't a racist term. It actually has nothing to do with race as anyone from Amy particular group or with any particular characteristic can be dog whistled

"Sorry to say, I use to be more excepting. But the more I have it pushed into my face the less tolerance I have for people pushing their own agenda on me. Personally I think they have caused more problems and more resentment. Each to their own, do what you want but leave me out of it. The right have hijacked it and now it just means not a dickhead. Yeah, you have to read it in context. In some contexts it means aware of marginalisation (particularly racial, although I think the meaning has organically expanded). In other context it seems to be just another insult. I like to substitute "poppyhead" in my head in those contexts. Basically if you have a slight bit of empathy and care about your fellow human or the planet you’re “woke”. I’m more than happy to be called that. It's a fucking weird insult though. That and "virtue signalling". Are they telling us they're such bad people that any hint of goodness has them hissing like the Wicked Witch of the West? "Melting. Oddly enough some extremists on the woke side are intolerant of people who won't tolerate everything... Thats kinda fucked up ... I honestly think this woke thing actually let's people think you should be rewarded for being empathetic and caring , when imo you should always want to be this way ... as best you can .

" But that isn't the meaning of the word. Just because MSM uses the word wrongly doesn't mean we all should abandon it. Language is fluid and evolves -- the original meaning of woke is irrelevant as the original meaning of gay or queer. You're so close to understanding. "To say you're "anti woke" literally means you're against fairness, empathy and you are racially or socially prejudice... In your opinion. By definition, actually. No, not by definition. Bess x Totally agree here " I like this view

"Yes I’m woke and I don’t care that I am; I’m a radical feminist that doesn’t shut up about it and I actively campaign for LGBT+ people, black people (BLM) and other marginalised groups not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because it’s what’s right in my heart. I, as a white woman, am oppressed for being a woman; but my skin colour doesn’t play into it. On the contrary, black women are oppressed for being a woman and for being black; so why wouldn’t I fight against that? I’m supposed to think it’s fair that I’m free while another woman is not? If that makes me woke then so be it. I’m a proud member of the woke community" What are all these oppresions you speak of?

"Yes I’m woke and I don’t care that I am; I’m a radical feminist that doesn’t shut up about it and I actively campaign for LGBT+ people, black people (BLM) and other marginalised groups not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because it’s what’s right in my heart. Thats a highly intolerable statement... I'd i.agine you may put your had up ? " I'm intolerant of fascists, yes. To the point where if they can't see that they're inhuman then they should either be segregated from the rest of society if they can't be changed from perpetuating poison or not be on the planet, yes.

"We are all basically the same people mostly separated by education & circumstance & not all black people are equal just like not all white people. Feeling a victim keeps you a victim." One of the things I notice with the people slurred as 'woke' is their second-guessing of who is oppressed and who is privileged. Assuming people are victims because of their identity is ridiculous and incorrect and seems comes from middle class academics who have very little experience of the real world. It typically manifests as intersectional politics, which is the biggest crock of far-left nonsense ever. That doesn't mean oppression doesn't happen, but it's a bit more nuanced than student identity politics. Ironically, after the Russian Revolution, many of the pro-communist academics were baffled to find themselves also shipped off to the gulag.

" Didn't the fascists segregate people from society and remove from the planet people they didn't agree with? Pot kettle black? Sounds like you are a fascist but don't realise it. Isn't segregating people from society inhuman? Apartheid? Early US racial segregation? Isn't intolerance itself fascist?it's certainly Chinese Communist(Huighur Muslim re education camps),North Korean,Taliban/Isis etc.

"Woke Anti Woke Moderate Extreme Terminology can quickly turn into word salad. Be respectful... I reckon that pretty much covers it. Simplistic I know, but its a good place to start? " Yes. There is a lot of room in between woke or anti woke. Depends on one's definition too. And extremity of one's opinions. T
