"An almost permanently empty Turkish barber shop. "

Not by me, it’s super busy. And they only seem to do the one style of haircut so you can always tell where the local men get their hair cut

Whaley Bridge,Nr Buxton,

As soon as M&S and the banks went the high street died.Empty units,Coffee shops and charity shops.Even one of the charity shops has closed. The Pawnbroker will re-locate when his lease expires. When a Pawnbroker leaves town you know it's fucked.

You’re getting confused there, no need for flames with e-cigs

In Winchester, our High Street is pedestrian only and has:

Lloyds Bank

Barclays Bank

HSBC

NatWest

Santander

Halifax

Nationwide

(All are along High Street with Barclays at the junction of it with another street. I can’t work out how our fairly small city can sustain all these full working branches with normal banking hours within a couple of hundred feet of each other).

Street market/Farmers’ market several times a week and every Saturday, I believe.

Lots of artisan cafes, restaurants

Bakeries

M&S

Actually, a good variety of shops that extends beyond it to the adjacent streets. It’s fairly busy because there’s a good flow of tourists passing through regularly seeing as our Cathedral is just off it.

Whaley Bridge,Nr Buxton,

Our council have just spent £8.25 million buying a half empty shopping centre. They can't tell us why or what they plan to do with it apart from pay a consultancy firm to tell them what to do.Private enterprise/government has raised £23 million for regeneration. The council now want a 300 room asylum centre right in the middle of the town centre.

North West

Which high street? Big towns are full of charity shops, cafés and cheap clothes places, with the odd key cutting and book exchange shop. The local little precinct has a Co-op (no proper blue badge parking), a butcher, opticians and corner shop (massive steps, can't get inside any of those) plus a post office and a pizza takeaway (more steps).

I shop online because it's way easier and I can definitely get into my own house. We food shop at the big Sainsbury's and Home Bargains which ARE wheelchair accessible.

Manchester (she/her)

We have many small independent eateries, a few chains. Lost a couple of banks. Two independent butchers, fishmonger (locally owned for over half a century), greengrocer, boutique clothing stores, independent second hand book store, speciality cheese shop, nail bars and beauty salons, about six charity shops, independent photo shop, one vape shop and one betting shop. M&S Food, Co-op, Boots, Tesco Express, short walk to Aldi.

Unfortunately, it closed during the Pandemic. However, it has been replaced by a bakery-cafe with scrumptious fresh bread and a good assortment of cakes and sandwiches for dining in.

Not been for a while but the high street is pretty much dead and all the shops are in the main shopping mall. Go a bit past the high street street though near the cathedral and there are still a few nice little shops

High Streets around my county have changed but they are not dying, just different.

How people shop and bank has changed massively. Blame the internet…..
