Motion sickness

I suffered (and still do sometimes) from this, … *stop laughing! I feel like a kid every time it hits me. It’s stopped me going in extreme rollercoasters which isn’t great, because I really want to go on them. (I’ve tried tablets and only work short term. )

It hit me on Friday night in an Uber.

I thought this would have been something you grow out of. Anyone else have this problem? Or even a stupid thing that causes problems with everyday normal life?!

This is why I do sex slowly. Can’t have the bed moving across the floor can we?….

When I used to play video games such as COD they made me feel sick. Never found a solution

VR makes me feel sick.

Being in a car if I'm not driving does.

Buses/trains do.

And yeah rollercoasters.

Staying still is good.

surrounded by twinkly lights

I wear the bands on all coaches and buses, day to day.

Teacups, pirate ship etc are also triggers, roller coasters luckily don't affect me

That would be the end of me. But, now I just read this, I actually get dizzy watching others play these games. And that why I don’t watch.

If I’m driving I’m fine too. Front seats is hit and miss, depends who is driving and how they drive.

I struggle in elevators too.

No. Before drinking honestly. I turned up, had a pint of water for my first drink to calm it down.

My mates all laugh at me.

I hate elevators but that's for claustrophobic reasons!

My siblings were. Being the youngest I'd be stuck in the middle seat with them vomitting either side of me on long trips. And occasionally on me

I think my sister mainly grew out of it, but my brother still only likes to be in a car if he's driving or he feels unwell.

Have you lot had your ears looked at? Sometimes motion sickness is caused by ear problems

I suffer from it too.

Cars

Buses/coaches

Simulators (the sort you sit inside)

Ships such as cross channel ferries.

I don't get it on trains for some reason. Perhaps because sudden changes of speed and direction are less common

your head

Yeah, if I sit in the back of a car for a long time I feel sick. Doesn't affect me on any other types of transport though.

I've never liked rollercoasters or anything that goes round and round. It gives me vertigo. I can't even sit on a swing in a playground.

Don’t get me started on the time I got vertigo!

I’d hate to deal with that again. It lasted ages.

I spent most of my teenage years permantly suffering, it's only settled really in my 30s. I also stay far away from anything that can trigger it.

I found mine was lifts combined with airplane travel.

I feel for you, it was odd to deal with.

BRIDPORT

Can’t travel as a back seat passenger in a car, passenger seat depends on how firm the suspension of the car is, totally fine driving.

Don’t ever ask me to read anything whilst a passenger, will be sick within minutes.

I can’t travel in a vehicle if I’m not sat facing the direction of travel.

Coaches and mini buses are also not good news.

Someone once told me it has to do with your sight of the horizon , if it is impaired or obstructed, have no idea if this is correct.

I always was told to look out of a window.

Interesting what you said about suspension.

The Uber driver did drive ‘different’ in a stupid Prius eco mode.

For those of us who suffer from it, motion sickness is often caused by a dislocation between what you see and what you feel.

If we focus on reading a book while riding in a moving car that's what we see, but we feel the movement of the car (through our balance sensors in the middle ear). Our brains then get confused and decide the only solution is to make us feel nauseous. Sudden acceleration or changes of direction make it worse.

Looking out of the window (particularly the windscreen) helps the brain match the signals coming from the eyes and middle ear and we don't feel nauseous.

I also find fresh air helps, so open those windows and let some breeze in.
