Assuming you are genuine and not a time waster, then go for it and ask for a social with no expectations. Once you meet them you may feel more comfortable and they may really like you. From that point if things progress, how about asking for just a soft swap to break you in? You can then go further if you mutually agree.

The first steps are always the hardest, in so many things.
