Tell me things about culture. What cultures are you a part of or are a part of you?

Or what about fab? Swinging culture? The culture in the forums?

Or even pop culture? What do you love about it? What do you hate about it?

Cultures I am a part of using only words often used in that culture

She/her, they/them, alley, plopping, CG method, silk, equality, barm, northern, centre left, socially left, nationalism, Scottish, British, fab, pineapple, sky remote, meets, socials, bratty sub, rope, tech, SAAS, UAT, international, IELTs, due diligence, diversity, HE, ND, task initiation, object permanence and I could probably go on

I think I'm in a few cultural groups, my sports club, the music that I'm into (although not actively in the scene just appreciate these days).

Well I've got the ALT vibe going on. I love my music and have a diverse range of tastes. Saw a band called pomp last night - self titled "London wackiest metal band" at the birds nest in Depford. Will defo be popping back tomorrow as I'm seeing "Koo koo kangaroo" at an all ages gig at the New cross inn. So I will literally be getting down with the kids!

I do love music pub, even a pub with a decent jukebox will do.

Erm I try to explain mine but it usually ends up in a argument. Some things are better left unsaid. People have their own "Tribes". So sometimes explaining your interests may not be offensive to you others deem it offensive and get angry.

It's a problem I've been grappling with in a very real way. What culture means to me, should it mean anything. Social fracturing versus nationalism. Culture versus capitalism/ consumerism, to what extent does culture get minimised/ erased/ fetishised (both in the hegemonic and the marginalised circles)? To what extent does seeking culture play into toxic nostalgia?

Is this a conversation for Fab, though, probably not

Ex pat culture is an odd one, kind of a global nomad. Most of my deepest roots and strongest connections are with people that share my spiritual views, regardless of their religion (or not)

Me? The disabled people community, the wheelchair basketball community, the Spanish/LatAm community, a community of multinationals I've done Spanish courses with, our workplace community, this little street etc.

Him? The wargaming community, some of the ones same as me above etc.

Tribes and cults is by far a much better world for it than culture these days. And that's across the board, regardless of if you view your "culture" as political left or right, race, gender, sexual orientation, hobbies, whatever. It comes down to tribes and cults.

Good points!

I view culture as groups of people with shared language and experiences that people not engaged with it would need explanation of but yes this could also be tribes, cliques and sometimes even cults. I tend to flit between things and hopefully never become to engrained in the clique or cult side.

If course culture is also the art side of expression of groups or societies. And the growth of bacteria in a lab but I am fairly sure that is only slightly connected to fab.
