"That time of the year again. Gone up again. £130 more than last year. Tried all the other sites and they are quoting about £50 more than my renewal. Anyone else feel they are getting shafted by their insurance? No wonder people drive uninsured." Well the last part is one of the reasons why. Try different combinations of named driver's if you can. Sometimes takes a bit off. Use topcashback etc...got £50 off mine last year

"Even if the renewal is the best price, still call them up and say you can get a better deal (a little white lie), chances are they’ll be able a shave a few more pounds off at least .. every penny counts! " Yep..will try that.

"Tried all the cashback sites, still more expensive and there is no guarantee they will pay out as I found out a few years ago." This is definately something to take account of

"I found out recently that insurance companies are looking at the amount of car claims that are in your area, this then forms their base lines for the insurance premiums they charge." They have always done that. A friend of mine works in the insurance industry and apparently claims inflation is a big issue, for every £1 they take in car insurance premium they are paying out £1.15 in claims. As a business model that isn’t sustainable so premiums increase to offset it.

"I do this. Give them a call and ask them for their absolute best price if you pay today. It’s surprising how much they can knock off if you are willing to pay immediately. Also, don’t wait until your renewal letter comes through. Try to sort it a month or more in advance. The closer you get to it running out, the more you pay." This is a brilliant advice. However, remembering to start looking on time is always my problem. Having said that,I never stay with any insurer that charges more than the previous year if there was no claim made.

Shopped around and best I could find was not alot cheaper. Admittedly we go for the all singing and dancing policy, protected no claims, uninsured driver cover, breakdown cover.but it's worth it in my humble opinion to save the ball ache if they are needed.
