From the land of haribos.

First of all I want to say r.i.p. I read a bit of her life, she had four children and was married and divorced four times, and there is a lot of tragedy and heartache.

To name some of it, one of her sons passed away in 2022 and she have been struggling every since, one thing that I didnt know was that she was singing for a specific purpose and that reason seems that she was singing to protest, did you also know that and what other things do you know?

I was lucky enough to see Prince perform that live a few times..Blew me out of the water and I met the great man twice.

She was someone I grew up with, before she recorded the lion and the cobra, people were talking about this 16 year old that recorded a demo with a band called ton ton macoute. I saw her live twice. Her voice was different, so different. It could be so pure, strong and angry.

The last time I saw her, halfway through her set she stopped and gave the stage to a young singer she liked called Damien Dempsey for 20 minutes.

She was fearless, fragile and uncompromising with the misfortune of having a mental illness in the public eye. We see the usual hypocrites now going RIP that were laughing at her life not so long ago.

She was uncompromising, she didn't hide her beliefs for her career. She shaved her head to avoid being sexualised. Spoke out against one of the most powerful organisations in the world. She never played the game.

Her debut album still gets played by me, and it still hits just as hard as it did back then.

RIP Sinead O’Connor I will admit I don’t know anything about her music but been 55 years old I do know the song that she is most famous for Nothing Compares To You.If that it is the only song she is remembered for then what a song it is to be remembered by.

She did that for all those abused! My dad was Irish and in care he was abused by the church too. Her music is a mixture of Rock, Folk, Tradition Irish, etc Brilliant voice and musician my dad loved her.

Possibly the real inspiration was prince's housekeeper when she left to go back to her family

Oof teen memory unlocked! I had that on tape, recorded off the radio (complete with DJ speaking over it ofc lol), listened to it a thousand times but weird though it sounds only just now learnt the title/lyrics.

Very complex individual who in my eyes personified some of the deep Irish generational traumas, making her hard to understand and obviously hard to manage on multiple levels (some for better some for worse). I listened to her being interviewed on women's hour couple years back and the exchange abruptly ended when the interviewer tried one too many times to curb the swearing and some other un-pc comments, Sinead wouldn't have it lol. Clearly not someone who would accept being told to shut up, and in that sense remained a rebel all the way through.

She was a very beautiful soulful woman. Born into tragic family life, her music haunts me, she sung with her heart, she sung with top artists. Her life was battered but she struggled on despite. What a brave woman. The death of her son tore her apart.

Make me a channel of Sineads peace and in dying she is born to eternal life through her music.

I've just started listening to her audiobook autobiography which is read by her and is very powerful.

I started a thread yesterday about the power of one voice and how the same words carried by different voices don't have the same impact but it didn't get any traction and nobody commented on it.

I wasn't a big fan of her music but I agree that there are many who ignored her while she was alive who have jumped on the bandwagon to praise her now.

R.I.P Sinead O'Connor...A very talented Women...she had Bipolar...a fighter for peoples rights...abused by her Mum...placed in to a Magdalene Asylum at the age of 15 for shop lifting and truancy...thoughts of her Mum whilst singing 'Nothing compares to you' brought the tears...loss of a beautiful Son to suicide when he was 17 Pain that came through in her music...my favorite song of hers is...Mandinka...A truly inspirational women!! At peace with her beautiful Son Jake!!
