"Bloody hell I hope you're okay. Nobody needs that in a days work! But yeah I agree there's nothing worse than sitting in a&e for hours on end but at the same time I feel for the staff being so stretched on a day to day basis! " Thank you & I completely agree. It's not a job I'd want. It's fairly quiet in here, but there's still a woman shouting at the coffee machine...better than abusing a nurse, I guess!!

Or has dementia or something like that? We don't. So there may well be a reason that they do need to be in A&E. It's impossible to judge by just looking at someone. Many mental health crisis teams can only be accessed by going to A&E, as I discovered with my son.

She was extremely reasonable when chatting to her mate, once she'd worked out how to get her drink " I replied to the other poster, actually. But what was written was just about someone shouting at a coffee machine, nothing about sitting and being reasonable in between. You still have no idea why she's there, presumably. I get annoyed about assumptions that other people are or aren't there correctly because I've been sat there with my apparently healthy 18yo son (as he was at the time). Physically, he was fine, but mentally he was not. He'd been told to go to A&E to access the crisis team and we waited 12hrs. By a few hours in, he was shouting at things, getting angry etc but I am in a wheelchair, I couldn't sit right next to him because of the way the fixed chairs were arranged and we couldn't leave the department to get food because we had no idea when we'd be called in. It was horrific and I know for a fact people were sat there judging his behaviour because they didn't say it quietly. I'd have much preferred not sitting in A&E for 12hrs, in a mask, with all the doors open, with no food apart from a few biscuits. Only to be told that there wasn't much the crisis team could do, because 12hrs had passed and it no longer appeared he was in immediate danger. No, because I'd retrieved him from the place where he'd phoned me from, telling me he wanted to step in front of a train. So that's why I got "triggered". Perhaps you understand, perhaps you don't. I really don't mind which.

"Went in to A&E a couple of weeks ago at around 11.30pm. Within an hour I got seen by a nurse who took my details and why I was there and then got sent for an xray. Five hours later got called back in to be told a doctor will see me soon and given pain meds. In the morning about 8ish seen by another nurse and then seen by the doctor at 9.30am which took all of 10 minutes. No treatment given just some more pain meds. On the screen outside it stated that it was a 5 hour wait which for me was nine and a half hours. Was a little annoyed but hey ho it's the NHS they are doing their best. " That's a 5 hour wait to be seen... just to get your foot in the door so to speak... everything else takes longer....

Frustrated might be better. I'm fully aware people attend A&E inappropriately but it remains the fact that really and truly, unless we are the staff members making the decisions, we (the public) cannot judge who should or should not be at A&E just by looking/observing others in the waiting room. All manner of conditions can cause people to need very urgent care but they remain superficially "okay". My niece, age 8, was sent away twice after kids A&E triage, on consecutive days. On the third trip, she had her appendix out because it had burst. Apparently children with acute appendicitis look more ill than she did on the two prior occasions. If that was the opinion of the pros, I'm sure some people in the waiting room thought she didn't need to be there. She had open surgery and a prolonged recovery because yes, she had infection after. She's fine now, a year later. We know people do go there when they shouldn't but I'm not going to make those judgments whilst sat waiting.
