Tom has been told that EU hospitals will no offer free emergency treatment to English citizens. Is this true and if so why? You could not make it up

But that is exactly what the English voted for. The rest of the "United" Kingdom knew better.

Because we don't pay towards their medical or government. When we were a part of the EU we had EU medical cards.

Why would you get free healthcare from a country that doesn't have a socially funded medical system.

This is what holiday health insurance is for.

So what happens if you are on holiday with no insurance and you are walking across a zebra crossing on green and a car piles into you ?

You crowdfund. Or you die.

You claim on their insurance. What were they thinking?

Does a French ambulance pick up an injured English Tourist and charge them a fortune if they have no travel insurance?

Aneurin Bevan did not die for this.

I hope not or I will take this all the way to the Reichstag.

Do you mean "not" or "now"? It's a big difference.

I thought there was a uk health insurance card - allows you to be treated and the government will reimburse whoever for treatment but if all else Fails you have health insurance for this

Tbf that means you're likely to be lucky. Not as cheap for those of us with pre existing conditions, disabilities etc, even if those conditions are highly unlikely to cause issues on holiday. If you don't declare EVERYTHING, and you are admitted after a totally unrelated health event (e.g. sunstroke), then your insurance will refuse to pay out.

This is true - I'm only paying for myself and have no medical conditions. I usually just get backpacker insurance that covers serious stuff - I'll limp through anything else.

You can get a GHIC (Global health insurance card) for free which wil get you medically necessary state healthcare in Europe at a reduced cost or sometimes for free.

If your EHIC is still in date, you do not need to apply for a new GHIC.

You can apply for the GHIC on the NHS website.

The government recommend that travel insurance is taken out too and not to rely on the GHIC

Glyn has explained it well. Bring your card and you will be ok.. was this in the small print of Boris Bus.

Wonder if these countries will try it on tho. Will there be consistency.. Tom trusts some European countries more than others.
