My dad died the same day when I was 15. I was on a train and the station manager took me aside when I arrived to tell me in a waiting room bc my dad was meant to collect me.

It was very unexpected and I had to hang around for another family member to pick me up. I heard about Diana on a tannoy there.

Needless to say it didn't really have much of an impact. In fact the hysteria surrounding it was a bit galling from people who never met her, which incidentally I had done a few years before when she was on a hospital publicity visit.
