My dad died the same day when I was 15. I was on a train and the station manager took me aside when I arrived to tell me in a waiting room bc my dad was meant to collect me.

It was very unexpected and I had to hang around for another family member to pick me up. I heard about Diana on a tannoy there.

Needless to say it didn't really have much of an impact. In fact the hysteria surrounding it was a bit galling from people who never met her, which incidentally I had done a few years before when she was on a hospital publicity visit.

I was on a night shift and someone said they had heard it on the radio, we didn't take her seriously at the time as we were busy and it seemed too incredulous. We saw it on the news when people started putting their televisions when they woke in the morning.
