We are looking into this as an alternative to gas in our new house. Does anyone here use them and what's your thoughts on them?

Can't say I've heard of it over here apart from the infrared saunas.

We have one infrared heater. It's inefficient and expensive to run.

Is it a wall or celling panel?

Have you thought about a wall mounted A/C unit to heat the house?

We have it on the wall, I'm no expert but I think it could go on the ceiling too.

We are lead to believe that A/c unit are quite expensive to run. We are going to have to relocate or boiler, so we are thinking about replacing the whole system with and electric boiler and possibly IR celling panels and mirror panel in the bath room.

If paired with Salus or Genuis system they are not inefficient.

For a large size room 2 x 1200w mounted on the ceiling is more than sufficient. With the control systems they really aren't expensive to run at all.

Had them in work years ago, they're nice at 1st when it's cold until you eventually feel like it's starting to cook you alive, the problem then was when you turned it off you instantly feel freezing cold again. There's probably much better heaters than the ones I used, all I can say is my experience of them were not good.

You're experience will probably be more useful to the op by the sound of it

They are very energy efficient in heating mode. Just could be expensive to install...

Anything using electricity rather than gas is going to be more expensive to run. Look at the cost per kwh. Electric is about 3 times that of gas. If your design and budget runs to it, install underfloor heating, it is a million times nicer than radiators.

The new ones are amazing, you can direct the heat to where its required meaning your only heating the area where it is needed and not wasting it by heating unoccupied areas. Modern ones are also incredibly energy efficient when set up correctly.

When we design a new house we are using these more and more, coupled with a decent ASHP for the hot water system you can really reduce your bills.

Thank you all for your advice. We are going to install one in our cellar as a trial run and see how we go
