I am sure this has been discussed before and may well be again.

Should your work be able to take action for things you do or say in your personal time? I know a lot will depend on what work you do and many companies may use 'bringing the company into disrepute' line as a basis for action.

More and more contracts include this now. Legals are always behind the curve on areas like this but in general yes, companies do have a legal right to protect image and reputation regarding employees online and offline activity.

Just stating the views are your own personal views on LinkedIn & Twitter isn’t enough if they are offensive or not fact based.

Some professions have codes of conduct etc. They can lose their professional licence if reported for doing something in their private life, that is felt reflects badly on their professional image to the public.

I know in my profession it would be very much frowned upon us being swingers and being on here would end up in S being moved sideways or even sacked - Going to a club is even more tricky for us so much so we have stopped doing it.

I've seen people in my company get into trouble for social media posts denigrating the company or people within it. Someone was also taking very inappropriate photos last Christmas within the building and was asked to remove them from social media.

My job is very public, I've no idea if my face should be on here or not. But I don't see that my personal life has anything to do with my work life.

For some, it's written into contracts. You could argue, and would probably have a good case, that such restrictions inhibit your human rights.

Much of the politically correct BS that has become acceptable dogma today is because we are fearful of repercussions for our honest beliefs. Word smiths who fly in the face of genetics and biology and then make a mockery of centuries of sporting effort and competition… people who are too shit scared (including me) to state the obvious in public for fear of being terminated by shareholders who are too spineless to defend their employees against people who would never be customers but are bored enough to make noise and enjoy publicly shaming them.

Superglued hands on public roads are not called out for the idiots that they are and vandals that spray buildings with orange paint are not seen like a yob of 20 years ago with a spray paint can…
