How did he get away with it?

How did Saville get away with it? 5 decades of horrific crimes, hundreds of offences. Only 3 police investigations whilst alive (2003, 2008, 2011). He had friends in the police, he was King Charles/Diana marriage counsellor. He was Part of the corrupt BBC, his brother was a gangster

Still though, you would think he at least been arrested at some point?

It's disgusting that he got away with it.

Unfortunately we live in a world where money talks. Saville offered people something wether it be job security, money, a career. Speaking against him was probably suicide financially and for a future career. Also the BBC are incredibly corrupt and hush hush. Look at how they handled the huw edwards story now. Granted its nowhere as bad a Saville but they haven't learned as they continue to not be honest and to try and keep things under wraps. But basically it mainly always boils down to money

If you have Netflix then check out the documentary about Seville on there. It a pretty scary, seeing him on TV with young girls sat on his lap, on camera, squirming because it was obvious he was doing something to them.

Then there's The taped interview with the police where he tells the interviewer he's not answering thier questions and they pretty much have no power over him.

His brother wasn't a gangster, he worked at Springfield Hospital in Tooting. Just as perverted as his brother.

Crazy that it wasn’t the police who exposed Savile it was a journalist and his two producers that backed him. Without this journalist it may have remained covered up

The BBC was given a second chance after Savile yet they continue to make the same mistakes. Victims allegations are not taken seriously

The Town by The Cross

There are different views in this thread some level headed and some ill informed hot air blowing by people who know nothing to little and are using the event to take a moral stance.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned much - if at all - is that girls and women were 'fair game' in those times and before and to an extent they still are. That's how most men view women, interact with women and that goes for society not just individuals.

Watch almost any interaction , male 'banter' film or t.v. progs from those times and take on board the roles and exchanges from men to women

You raise a very fair point of " fair game" throw back from a society being steeped in patriarchy.

A lot of Savilles victims were very young,"women" is stretching it a bit, plus he abused patients in the hospitals he volunteered at,people who were hardly in a fit state to defend themselves "Fair game" only applies to a narrow band of victims.

Ok - you had the 15 year old girls on TOTP that were getting abused, that was still wrong back then but may have been common. However CHILDREN were not fair game. 10 year olds in care homes have never been fair game. He pimped out children and slept with dead bodies ???!!?

Pretty much that. Same as grooming gangs, it was common when I was at school in the mid 1980s for gangs of ‘bad lads’ to gobafter all the runaway girls get them on drugs and get them pregnant underage was very common. I remember girls as young as 13/14 scared to go home after school because gangs were waiting and no one did a thing , they called them slags

The lack of respect/mysogyny only goes so far. There was a willingness to disbelieve amongst organisations, the Police and the public equally.I have seen in other threads disbelief that any aspect of the Schofield/Edwards stories are true.Looking back at what we know about Saville and his chums(Harris,Hall,Clifford,Talbot etc)the Schofield/Edwards stories have more red flags than a clearance sale at a red flag wholesalers.Absolutely mind boggling that so few people/organisations have learned nothing from Saville et al.

If a jorno has all this evidence and they are credible and reliable why on earth are they waiting till the person is dead.

Surely if they have this information they have a duty to go to the police with it.

Why are they waiting till they die when there is no chance of getting some justice.

Before any journalist can print in the name of the publication the publications lawyers crawl all over it with a fine tooth comb, any doubt no print, plus they have to consider the impact of any revelations in a future trial,it's just giving ammunition to the defence to claim trial by media, even though judges instruct juries to forget what has been said in the media it's impossible to wipe someone's memory of how a story has developed when all the celeb mates/employer circle the wagon and defend the bad guy.

I think people under a certain age I'd say anyone under 50 probably won't remember or know.

But the 70's where a very different era in terms of it seemed to be socially acceptable for old men to letch over young women, carry on film's, sitcoms, comedians and so on...

So today it seems inconceivable that he got away with that kind of behaviour in the public eye unfortunately he was just another dirty old man then.

But he always gave me the creeps didn't stop me writing into Jim'll fix it as a young boy asking to try and score a goal against Pat Jennings.

I read something on the net many years ago about the link between those loveable East end gangsters "The krays" and children's homes rent boy sex rings. Lots of peers and celebrities were involved and it had links with the Haut de la Garenne. The article vanished without a trace a bit like loads of the kids involved. It's shocking how many kids in care vanish now and how it's not a major issue.
