Had one yesterday from 'EE' in India.

Hate them and wasnt in a good mood yesterday.

Managed to string him along for 30min with bullshit before I cut him off.

Told him my adress was 10 Downing St and Im sharing a house with my friend Rishi.

Gave him dob as 30/02/68..not even sure if that was a leap year lol

What do you do to cold callers?

The problem isn’t the cold caller, they are doing a job and trying to earn some money.

For me the problem is the death of the high street and the inability to walk into most customer service based shops along with moving call centres out of the UK to where most staff are working from a script.

If I don’t know a number I won’t answer it, if they want me they will leave a voice message and I will return the call, better than messing with someone trying to earn a living, just my opinion

Nah. Earn a living? These bastards scam people of their life savings. They prey on old people especially. They aim for people who aren’t tech savvy, get them to log on to banking and empty their accounts.

That’s not people trying to earn a living. That’s criminals doing what criminals do best.

If I have time I wind them up.

During the rash of Windows calls I'd talk to them for aaaages and then start talking about curtains when I got sick of them.

These companies use auto-dialling technology so if my phone rings with an unknown number on the display I answer it but I don’t say anything. The auto-dial technology is effectively voice activated so if you speak you’re transferred to a human. If the auto-dial technology doesn’t detect any sound then the call drops.

Not all cold callers are after your details. I work in people to people calling so yes I'm one of those people and am just doing a job to pay my bills like everyone else. Its really hard some days to bite your tongue and wish a person a great day when you have been spoken to like your scum of the earth.

Trouble is, you have the scammers and thieves to thank for this, as no one trusts cold callers and for good reason. They simply cannot take the chance in believing you are who you say you are.

Sadly many do and give far to much information. I do however take 30 seconds to explain to anybody if they overshare for example.. nobody's going to be in the house on such and such a date. That they shouldn't be telling a person this. If they sound vulnerable in anyway I put in a do not call button where by nobody in my firm will call again.

To be fair, if I think the person is genuine rather than a scam, I'll say a) sorry, it's not you it's the world out there, I'll look up the number of your company myself and call you back or b) sorry I'm not interested, have a nice day.

Worthing

If I do not know the number I do not answer. Doorstep visitors...I can see who is at the door from window. If it's not a relative, friend or delivery person I do not answer.

It's only the scammers I wind up. I'd rather waste their time on me than getting money out of someone who doesn't know better.
