China records 52.2 celcius

Stockport

China has just experienced a temperature of 52.2°C, the highest ever in its recorded history. Over the last several days, many places have had each day break their temperature records, each day breaking the record from the day before.

Putting this into context, the proteins in meat start breaking down at just over 40°C. At above 50°C human beings will literally cook alive unless there is some way to artificially keep cool. With sustained temperatures such as these, life is not possible, mass extinction across large areas of the globe becomes inevitable.

Discuss.

Ps. Anybody attempting to explain that trying to fix the situation is too expensive - please tell me what else the money can be used for when the majority of the human race are dead and money is just worthless records on computers that no longer exist.

That is actually pretty crazy.

I've been in 40c plus temperatures (in sunlight) and even as sun worshipper it became unbearable.

52c? I'll have to look where it was in China. If it's rural (like a lot if the country is) then RIP.

Never been but I hope they don't have our humidity where it was.

I'll avoid the topic of pollution (completely haven't)... hopefully it will propel them towards some better policies?

(x) doubt.

It was hot enough here when it hit 40, I'd definitely not cope with 52

Is it just heat from the sun and beneath the surface aswell, possibly gamma rays cooking the earth internally, like an egg in microwave.

Haven't checked the volcanic activity, did hear Iceland had some activity.

People have lived in deserts with those temperatures for millions of years. Nowadays we have chillers in the apartments, restaurants even outside areas and the clouds are seeded to make it rain. Projects like The Line in Saudi harness the suns heat to provide carbon free cities

Covid gave us some new words to throw about and make us sound like experts.

Pretty soon you'll be hearing about the wet bulb temperature, I know, I know, bloody scientists.

The human body is an incredibly designed machine. But we have our limits too. So why am I mentioning wet bulb temps. Because humans die when wbt reaches a certain threshold. Your own internal cooling mechanism (sweat) stops working.

This is all new territory for us humans and we're not sure what the lethal wbt is, but we're going to find out soon.

The good news it probably won't get to lethal levels in the UK for maybe 10 years. So don't panic just yet. WBT will likely kill humans in the Indian subcontinent and Arab peninsula first.

"Just looked again and found it on some blokes Twitter but nowhere official , as yet. "
Temps could hit 60 and China would still deny it.

From the guardian.

The UK’s met office said that China had provisionally recorded its highest temperature ever on Sunday. It said Sanbao, in western Xinjiang region, reached 52.2 degrees.

??? Dangerous levels of heat are affecting parts of North America, Asia and southern Europe

?? China provisionally recorded it's highest temperature on record on Sunday and some Mediterranean countries will challenge their respective records this week pic.twitter.com/zuD4rFEgng

— Met Office (@metoffice) July 16, 2023

Sanbao is in the Turpan basin, a below-sea level depression with a desert that has recorded some of the most extreme temperature variations in China, from temperatures well below zero in winter to baking summers.

The met office did not provide a source for the temperature, which was not reported by Chinese state media.

I think even if you can’t verify this specific thing, the temperatures we’ve experienced in this little island should tell you that the planet is fucked. We’re fucked. Our kids and their kids are fucked. People don’t care. Governments don’t care. It’s depressing and sad.

Oh i saw that too. Insane - I'm still shocked that we had more heat records in July

I don't think there is a solution... People can't smell extinction - we are likecfrogs at the moment i think? It may be a good thing.

Perhaps we'll blend with AI, like we've seen in films - then we won't need food, so we won't need animals, so i guess we won't need to work... We'll live inside computer controlled and built buildings and experience everything through an interface... maybe that is our future ?

Wet Bulb Temperature is a real thing. It's a combination measurement of humidity and air temp. And the number is lower than the air temp. But why it matters is, 1. we're so close to lethal WBT and 2. Humans will not be able to cool down. Polly wrote mass human extinctions, humans will die quickly in very large numbers.

Hello officer,

As well as making lifestyle changes I am also donating to a group to support them. I actually have also bought ‘this is not a drillI’ the extinction rebellion manifesto book to also read more about the issue and how it affects marginalised communities around the world more.

Is that ok Officer? Would you like to take me in for further questioning?

Yes! I would like to take you in for more questioning. Specially as you are calling me officer.

What lifestyle changes have you made ?

Well unless you’re arresting me for a crime I’d like to politely decline. "

"I think even if you can’t verify this specific thing, the temperatures we’ve experienced in this little island should tell you that the planet is fucked. We’re fucked. Our kids and their kids are fucked. People don’t care. Governments don’t care. It’s depressing and sad.

Remember it's not the message of JSO, it was how they went about it.

It is depressing, I wrote on an other thread that in effect people are saying a big fuck you to their children and grandchildren.

I think people can’t even comprehend that we’re making life difficult for future generations because it won’t affect them.

So what effective action are you taking Pickle ?

That should fix it

I think donating to groups taking action is a good way to support actually.

It is. Much better than doing it yourself. Pay others to do it. (not having a dig by the way) just so many think tokens are going to make a significant difference. And before you ask... No im not doing much that matters... Drive less..fly less... Buy less but in the scheme of things makes fuck all difference "

I’m not going to ask you. I’m not a fed.

I stand by my comment- a lot of people do not care because it doesn’t impact them. I’ve interacted with those people online and in person.

And it’s not that I don’t want to. Well it is. But that is impacted by decisions I’ve made in relation to being able to give up time when I work and am a parent to a small child, not wanting to get arrested for partaking in some forms of disobedience etc. so I think it’s good to support those that can and will give themselves to the cause so they have the resources to do so. That’s my opinion

"I'm disappointed but not surprised by the responses of some in the thread so far. "

To be fair these would probably be representative of a discussion of any group of individuals. What is surprising is the inertia at global level which is the only way to tackle this in some way. Whether someone goes on another holiday or turn the heating down 1° is neither here or there although still good to make you feel you are doing something when the ones above constantly procrastinate. Sadly there is too much conflict and financial implications that affect different countries in different ways so I am not holding my breath

Buying a book or giving a few quid to some organisation won't change anything. The world's population would have to agree to give up central heating, air conditioning, their beloved cars, phones and computers, no new clothes, and no highly processed foods (that's basically anything that comes in a plastic wrapper), no TV's or game stations. That's probably just a small drop in the ocean, we would have to revert back to life last seen in the middle ages. Do you think 'everyone' will agree to that, because the last time I looked people couldn't even agree on whether a fanny should be hairy or not - there won't be a choice with the one and only solution, because razors, aerosol foams and hot water won't be available either.

To put into even more context - records for temperatures only began less than 100 years ago.

This isn’t the hottest temperature China has ever had. Not at all.

We know that the world has been much much hotter (and much much colder) than it is currently, even during the times of humans, and certainly during our evolution.

People need to chill out and instead of saying stupid things like “humans will literally cook alive” (we won’t), start realising that we can adapt to changes. We are a resilient species and even more so given the technology that exists now.

We should also use our abilities to help other species too. But yeah, all this panicking as fear mongering is stupid.

I know, I didn't need to quote anyone, I just wanted to express that people will moan, probably blame the government/s and others like China, but not be prepared to make the sweeping changes required to save the planet. Anything short of complete reversion back to the middle ages won't help.

"China has just experienced a temperature of 52.2°C, the highest ever in its recorded history.

People have lived in deserts with those temperatures for millions of years. Nowadays we have chillers in the apartments, restaurants even outside areas and the clouds are seeded to make it rain. Projects like The Line in Saudi harness the suns heat to provide carbon free cities

Flabbergusted by all these amazing stuff"

People have this odd view that Europe and America are leading the way in tech etc , Middle East is way way ahead not just on adapting to climate change but things like water and electricity production, transport , reduce reliance on diesel, identity and authentication, crime , healthcare etc.

I haven't looked into if it's true or not. There is definetly some agenda being pushed ATM though. Youtube ads: Climate crisis followed by an electric car advert.

Even IF we are on a continual heating up phase of the earth I'd suggest We likely can't "fix" the issue anyway as I tend to think it's mostly natural.

The people with the power to change this have known long before the public did and accelerated anyway. When humanity fails, blame the gas and oil giants. Who have been part of the development of "personal responsibility" as a gambit. "Why no, plebs, we won't reduce our massive profits, how tyrannical of you to suggest so, even if it would save humanity. Have you tried completely upending your life so we can tell you it's still not good enough, for one billionth of the benefits of us being less greedy?"

And the upcoming refugee crises - the same people who support the greed of the oil companies and diminish anyone trying to do something will cream themselves as more and more people drown and governments get crueller towards people who just want to live.

Eh what? I'm suggesting go see where the predictions are from and if there is an agenda. If you looked at data from large, dense populations i.e prisons, military bases you would see something different than UK predictions. If you visited somewhere like Sweden during 2020 you'd have seen a completely different approach without the total armegeddon. Just saying be mindful what your taking in.

People have this odd view that Europe and America are leading the way in tech etc , Middle East is way way ahead not just on adapting to climate change but things like water and electricity production, transport , reduce reliance on diesel, identity and authentication, crime , healthcare etc.

I guess what will happen over time, all over the globe, is that the rich will be benefit from theses advances and others, and will colonise parts of the world and live in a protective environment... Whilst the poorer peeps won't have access to all/some of these resources and will live shorter, sicker, uncomfortable lives? "

Isnt that already happening.?

"Just fuck that.

A bit too warm to fuck

I think more rainfall is predicted for uk & Ireland as the result of climate change. So maybe

Predictions from who? What is there previous success record? Who/what paid for the studies, could they be pushing an agenda?

Covid taught me to trust my gut and look deep into things like "predictions" and where they come from or if they are simply modelled on inaccurate or insufficient information

Covid taught me to limit my engagement with people like you.

Just saying be mindful what your taking in."

Ah, Sweden.

Yeah. That went real well

Being mindful of what you're taking in goes both ways, tbh.

So we can't blame the people who've known about this for fifty years because we have to live in a society that has reliance on oil baked into it? That's bullshit.

If the oil and gas industry had been proactive when they'd known (at least fifty years ago) we'd be in a much better position and all they would have lost is some of their obscene profits.

Instead they helped develop notions like personal responsibility ("carbon footprint" being invented by BP) so you can blame me for existing in society, when nothing I can do would make a trillionth of the difference that these companies could have made.

I don't fly, I don't drive, I don't have children, I don't eat out, I minimise my power use, I make my own soap etc etc. And yet somehow you say I'm avoiding responsibility and blaming someone else - for recognising that my efforts are like trying to save the Titanic with a thimble, when the owners should have done better safety checks and the captain should have heeded the warning of an iceberg.

Give me a fucking break.

Why aren't we planting trees all over... Going to war with Brazil for not stopping the rainforest for being demolished? We do love a good war so wouldn't that be a valid reason?

Despite being aware that our climate and indeed our entire planet is in flux, I am actually more than hopeful for humanity. Note I said humanity, not just a bag of skin and bones inhabited by a “demon”.

I recycle as much as possible. I waste little. I have created a bio diverse garden. I don’t fly abroad.

I have done as much as I can personally, without eating roadkill

Those that are left in ten years time will be reaping the rewards of an enlightened and spiritually connected world. Others will be living in their own personal hell.

Or I could just be completely crazy, if so crazy is preferable to “sane”.

Yup. Oil companies give the government money, therefore oil profit is more important than the survival of humanity.

And humans are stupid and selfish, therefore they don't think the problems in Asia have anything to do with them, and prefer short term fun over the survival of their children.

I'm personally very wary of people trying to avoid Covid. You build an immune system by getting things like Covid and alike. It's like running up hills for hours. You won't enjoy it but it will be better for you.

But yes I agree, the government does NOT have your health or best interests at heart. Nor should they dictate what is best for your health either, mind

Because the evidence says so?

Why do deniers remove MERS and SARS from this question? They're also coronaviruses

We've known since July 2020 that Covid reduces production of CD4 cells. A catastrophic loss of CD4 cells results in disease outcomes like AIDS.

It also reduces production of CD8 cells, which help inhibit cancers.

If you wanna fuck around with that because Boris says it's fine and Sunak says we should get moving and back to the office, be my guest. Or because "some coronaviruses are colds therefore it's fine" - I'm not sure why anyone is persuaded by that thin gruel of reasoning.

You do you, and people will continue to shout at me for my respirator. Whatever.

I'm not denying anything. Everyone should just do their thing ad decide what is best for themselves.

You must not forget there are way more downsides to protecting from one infection/disease. Lonliness for example can and does kill people. Boredom, lethargy, poor motivation. Being unfit, static. Not too mention not socialising stops you getting/transmitting other infections diseases which helps your immune system. If Covid is a problem for you, yes shelter from it. Other than that let people do them. Same with the Climate...

We live in a world dominated by those in charge who want the status quo . And who care little, if at all, about the majority of us.

That's why so little is being done about this.

It's scary that we could have achieved so much more but didn't quite bother.

If I had a planet to move to where I was proportionally affected by climate change by the amount I try to make a difference, I would.

And don't worry. I know in 2020 people cried that the closure of the pubs would destroy strong noble mental health because it hurt their feelings. Those who choose to protect themselves have found other ways to occupy themselves and have fun - we don't need the societal support and approval that the big strong noble people do.

Oh I dare.

There are plenty of people who have similar needs to you who are in their fourth year of lockdown. People who are facing prosecution because they can't return their clinically vulnerable children to schools where Covid remains rife.

But allowing them to return to society without risking death is a bit like combatting climate change. It requires people to give a fuck about anyone but themselves. So nah. They can lock themselves up, as many said "wetting themselves behind their sofa", or they can risk death, because our bwave nobwe fee fees.

Don't you dare... You seem unbelievably narrow minded or simply selfish

I spent nearly 2 years almost completely by myself waiting to get a life I built back... only for it too be totally taken away. I'm excellent at being on my own but even I struggle with not being around people I want to be around.

Some people are naturally social and/or have a need to explore the world. Having this put on hold or simply unable to socially mix with people was and did destroy people. Literal self harm or suicide. I know many people put on anti-depressants during Covid and still not right.

Good for you, that you have things to occupy yourself. The things myself and others enjoy need travel and real life social interactions.

So nah. They can lock themselves up, as many said "wetting themselves behind their sofa", or they can risk death, because our bwave nobwe fee fees."

Just more emotive language without giving a fuck about the other side of the argument.

You only care about the people who think the same way you do. How very liberal of you.

You cannot fear death to the point you can't live. Thatv is the worst disease of all.

Again if all these people worrying about people emiiting co2 got of their arse and planted trees we'd be fine. But your all too lazy whinging at people for wanting to live.

If you think people should still be in any form of Lockdown for 4 years... What is wrong with you

When I give a fuck about whether people to the right of my politics deem me liberal enough, I'll let you know. (I am not calling you any particular political name. I'm saying you're to the right of me. Which is undeniable looking at our various posts)

Meanwhile, the paradox of tolerance has severe limits, and "tolerate me contributing to an unsafe society for people not like me" is well past those limits.

Now your doing the "right" labelling thing. I think you maybe the most brainwashed person their is. I don't think you have the ability to think for yourself. Maybe you just lead a very sheltered life but it's clear you don't have much empathy for others

I know people who are in lockdown and have been so since February 2020. The fact that you can't imagine it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with me.

If you can only imagine "living" in terms of destroying the planet and mindlessly spreading disease, then I suggest you have a failure of imagination.

You also have a failure of imagination and perspective about the scale of the problem of climate change and why - like Covid - it's a problem that we'll all have to reckon with. You also have CD4 and CD8 cells, even if you're not aware of them, and screaming immunity debt or vaccines are icky doesn't make you immune to the cumulative harms of infection.

"I'm not denying anything.

Just more emotive language without giving a fuck about the other side of the argument.

You only care about the people who think the same way you do. How very liberal of you.

Most people are to the right of you, you describe yourself as Far Left.

You're happy admitting that you don't give a fuck someone's mental health because they see the world in a different way to you.

Maybe that's the 'far' in your ideology. I'd prefer to take a balanced view and let others live how they wish.

If people are so feeble that my words on a swinging site stop them from doing anything, maybe they should take some personal responsibility and strengthen themselves.

Meanwhile, the facts - which exist and I've alluded to in my polemic - don't care about your feelings.

I don't see it as your words on a swinging forum but your outlook on society in general.

It's sad really. You should look at the whole facts. Yes, your facts exist. The other posters facts also exist but of course you want to cherry pick.

Ok. Cool. You do you. I hope it contributes to the survival of life on this planet and human health.

Cheers "

I was thinking about this the other day. Some people just don't have the time to question or even think about these things... Family with multiples kids or single parent for example. Also I don't think your encouraged to think much for yourself in schools. Seems a bit of an indoctrination

"The people with the power to change this have known long before the public did and accelerated anyway.

Truth is we live in a massively corrupt country. Things such as, gifts/presents (only recently has to be disclosed)to politicians, MP's from companies or wealthy figures is legal so that somehow makes people think it's okay. It's corruption just legalised corruption

Yup. Oil companies give the government money, therefore oil profit is more important than the survival of humanity.

And humans are stupid and selfish, therefore they don't think the problems in Asia have anything to do with them, and prefer short term fun over the survival of their children."

Wont somebody think of the pensions...

The health outcomes in Sweden compared to other Nordic countries were and continue to be inferior. Hey ho

I still wear a respirator btw. Because I've done my homework and know that we've known about immune damage from Covid infections since July 2020 (yes I know it was deffo the kill shots which didn't exist in July 2020) and more besides.

I know some are screaming for even respirator bans and the end of remote work. Could that be because it's bad for us, or because governments and lobbying groups are obsessed with the economy and don't give a shit about your health?

I know you'll say I'm a sheeple. Yes. I'm usually the only one in a respirator. I'm totally following the herd, because words don't mean things

Let people do what they want just give people correct information to decide for themselves.

So a disease we know damages our immune systems is best caught?

I suppose it fits. Funsicles and economy over health "

I don't think a one size fits all policy is appropriate for pathogens. Build immunity to colds, so we should catch Ebola? Nah

But if I had to pick one size fits all approach, I'd be on the side of avoiding infection. A lot of "harmless" acute illnesses are linked to long term damage - polio is largely asymptomatic, chicken pox has recently been linked to dementia, glandular fever has been shown to cause multiple sclerosis, etc.

This immunity debt business didn't exist as a concept prior to 2021 (as distinct from the hygiene hypothesis) and I'm betting my health on it being a load of horse shit. I've also not had an infection of any sort since 2021, and it's great.

No, that's like avoiding breaking your leg because breaking your leg breaks your leg. And although you hear the thing about "when a broken bone heals, it heals stronger", (a) not really true, (b) often leaves you with permanent pain, (c) without very careful medical attention, and sometimes even with, a broken leg does not always heal straight and can leave you permanently unable to run anymore or even walk anymore.

It is an utter nonsense to say that in order to avoid catching a disease that can kill you or have very serious disabling consequences, you are going to catch that disease and risk being killed or having serious disabling consequences. If you do want to strengthen your immune system against that disease, what you actually need is to give it some mild exposure that will allow it to exercise but which will not run the risk of killing you. Happily such an exercise regime for the immune system does exist, it is called vaccination. "Oh, but what use is it if you have to keep doing it every year or every six months?". You know, I keep asking myself the same thing about exercise. I went for a walk to strengthen up my legs in 1997. Bugger me though, it seems to have worn off, these so-called sports experts keep telling me I have to do it every day. "What's the point of doing an exercise to strengthen your legs if you have to keep doing it again and again?". Duh, for a period in between the exercising you have stronger legs. Still even with those stronger legs, you try to avoid situations that will over stress those legs because they could break the bones. And as we've established, it's pretty fucking stupid to break that leg in order to avoid breaking that leg because breaking that leg breaks the leg and it might never be as good again as it was before...

So anyway, why we're talking about covid and breaking legs in a thread about the planet getting too hot I'm really not sure. Unless the point is that covid shows just how utterly fucking stupid the majority of people have become, how they are not just happy to believe the horseshit that governments will say in order to avoid looking bad, but also how people will even make up their own horseshit in order to avoid thinking about something that would otherwise have them scared shitless screaming in the corner.

Let's get is straight, the people who do worry about this stuff are not the ones that are frightened. They are the ones who find out about it, see that it's a really bad position to be in, and still try to do something about it.

The frightened ones are those that close their eyes, stick their fingers in their ears, and pretend that everything is good. And the _really_ frightened ones are those that are so scared that they have to get rid of anybody that does recognise that we're all in the shit.

We will never have indisputable proof of anything in science, only the evidence we can find and understand now. It's not to say that in X years time, new evidence will come to light that will amend or alter our understanding of something. What we do have is extensive evidence to support the CO2 link in the post industrial revolution period, to increasing global temperature and changes in precipitation and sea temperatures. The difference with this period of warming seems to be the CAUSE. Previous episodes of warming/cooling were most probably natural. The events of the current epoch align with the increase in CO2 in the atmosphere and have happened much more rapidly than previous cycles.

In science/medicine, there is almost never 100% certainty, but there will be a weight of evidence one way or another. There's plenty of academic writing on the Roman warming period and the medieval Little Ice Age but cannot link them on here due to the rules.

And the _really_ frightened ones are those that are so scared that they have to get rid of anybody that does recognise that we're all in the shit."

Read every post to see why Covid got dragged into it. It might be the same propaganda being used. That was my point.

My view is the earth is on a warming trajectory well before steam engines and ford fiestas. I also am not sure how the small amount of CO2 we add is a problem, meaning if it can be "fixed" That's even if co2 has any part at all.

I don't believe any one person has a defintative answer. Just if it's being pushed by our government or mainstream media, question it absolutely

NASA doing something funky to the weather manipulation, cloud formation, chemtrails. Scientists are messing about with nature and nature is fighting back. Man made climate change.

"Covid gave us some new words to throw about and make us sound like experts.

WBT will likely kill humans in the Indian subcontinent and Arab peninsula first.

it's not really new territory at all. humans have experience and thrived through hotter global temperatures many times. the Romans had a warming period for 3-500 years where the temperature was 2% hotter than it is today (experts have warned 1.5% is the point of no return for humans( and their empire thrived the weather enabled crops to grow and they had vineyards in England woohoo

remember acid rain killing everything, gas running out by the seventies, crops failing by the nineties, the hole in the ozone layer killing us all the list literally goes on and on of these major predicted crisis that never happened but we all paid tax and you might sleep a bit better.

above all though if you're actually worried about climate change plant some trees. literally plant some co2 recycling machines in your garden and get your friends and family to do the same.

Where's your sources for the higher temperatures during roman times..?

All the data shows the world was cooler than now. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medieval_Warm_Period

The Roman warm period began 250 BC. And temperatures in Europe were indeed 2c higher than they are now.

Can you show me the data. Heres another link showing we are in our highest temperatures for thousands of years.

http://www.longrangeweather.com/global_temperatures.htm

Can someone, anyone, point me in the direction of correlation / causation? I mean the in definitive indisputable proof?

Not something someone said or believes or an ever rising temperature graph ...

There are other theories. Have any of them been proven ?

And before the alarmist amongst us start thinking I'm a denier..... im not.

I just want the indisputable truth and not a graph ....

"

just turn on the Air conditioner. Problem solved.
