Photos of yourself

Do you ever look at a photo of yourself and think that’s not what I see when I look in the mirror? Either in a good way or a bad way? Can a photo of yourself completely change your confidence level at that time?

I’m not that happy with how I look but I’ve learnt to appreciate that it’s not all bad and some people actually like what they see. I wear things now that I wouldn’t have been confident enough to wear a few years ago. I’ve learnt how to take a pic of myself from the more flattering angle. Sometimes I look in the mirror and think I don’t look too bad.

Yesterday I got sent a pic that was taken of me and my daughter standing next to a waterfall. It was a lovely day spent with family in the outdoors. I felt really good about the day. However when i look at the pic, instead of seeing a lovely memory, all I can see is an absolutely horrendous picture of myself. I look enormous and frumpy. That’s not how I felt on the day but now it’s all I can see now.

I generally hate other people taking pics of me because of the effect it has on me when I see them. I don’t mind selfies as I can control how it’s taken, although I never use any filters. Anyone else find this too?

I hate the way I look in pictures. Well not my face i don’t think that’s that bad. Though some obviously do . I only skim read the OP but I think yes sometimes I look at pics and think i look much slimmer here or way bigger here than i thought i did when i last checked the mirror.

This is why I believe I'm a total catfish.

My pictures and how I actually look are completely different.

We find the best photos of us are when someone takes one when we are not expecting it, very few people are perfect to look at as Naked Attraction proves

You bring up a lot of points. I've been taking photos since I was 15 and I'll say upfront I'm more comfortable behind the lens but getting better about being the subject.

Sometimes a photo is about the memories, it's not about image. And on the subject of image, sometimes it's self image that people are referring to.

Next the camera lies lies and lies. How the camera sees and records you may not be a true representation of you. Taking good pictures of people is hard.

Don't let a photo effect your self confidence. When you look at that photo, think of the day you had with your daughter and say that's a shitty photo of a great day out.

Oh 100%, there are some photos I take where the angle is obscenely generous and when I see it, I think "I don't look like that all!" It does worry me because when I do meet people, I don't want them to feel let down.

I don't like most that other people take of me. You can't delete 99% of them and use the best one then!

But I make sure that I get lots of me and the kids regardless of whether it's my favourite angle or not

Oh absolutely. I think I am hotter than I am. Then I look in a mirror or see a photo and think. Huh. Have you always looked like that? How plain and frumpy. I am ok with it though. I get to exude the confidence of someone who is hot even when I am not. sometimes delusion is useful.

Reminds me of many years ago when I looked slightly better than I do now. Me and the gf were at some beauty spot - photos were taken and forgotten about until a few days after. On looking through the pics, she said "who's that!?", it honestly took some working out but we eventually realised it was me. She didn't recognise me and we only realised it was me as I was with her.

Sometimes photos, cameras or pictures just don't come out well.

Like Doggone, I've been taking Photos since I was 9 or 10. Far happier swapping Lenses and taking the Photos but slowly getting more comfortable in front of the Lens.

But I look at some Pics and think, "Damn, That can't be me" but it is .. I saw a Pic of me 13yrs ago and I was 17st unfit and yeah..not pleasant.. now I'm 11st unfit and yeah, probably still not great but it's me and I'm stuck with it and I hope I'm not a disappointment to someone who meets me (Eventually)

We understand what you are saying.

I the Mr have put on 3 stone of muscle over the last 3 year but most times I look in the mirror I see no difference.

People can't believe how much I have changed but I don't see it most of the time.

I think they call it muscle dystopia.

The Mrs has done really well in losing 5 stone since Christmas and even though I think she looks a shadow of her former self.

She just sees the bad points like loose skin.

Which is getting better with gym work.

So we know where you are coming from.

In the opposite I don't like what I see in the mirror at all, it's all a bit alien after kids it doesn't look like me it's all different.

The fab pics however I love, I think it's maybe because my face is blurred out or something but I like the pics but I don't see them as me, it's not the me I see in the mirror, maybe some alter ego type thing I guess there's the sexy version and the frumpy one is the one I see daily.

It's strange.

I usually have to be bullied into pics.

I don't seem to like or dislike them in any strong way. May just be apathy.

I don't think I get a lot from pics without knowing a person. So it's probably a reflection of that.

It's a thing, I don't know. I used to like taking pics. Still got my k20d somewhere.

It is very strange how differently we see ourselves. Fab pics can bring out our sexy side and I guess lighting and angles can make a big difference too. I often think I look better naked than I do in clothes

I'm the opposite of you op. I tend to believe the good photos over the bad. I know I'm not perfect and at certain angles I look better than at others. I'm way shorter than I am in my head, my hair sometimes looks frizzy in photos and I've walked about all day thinking I look like Jerry Hall, I'm often shocked that my age shows because my brain tells me I'm 30. But honestly, what am I going to do about it? Anyway the bad photos are wrong...

.

It's a weird one for me. I'm not photogenic in the slightest.

I've never particularly enjoyed having my photo taken. I feel awkward in front of the camera and that's in part due to being morbidly obese for most of my childhood/adult life. Most of the time I still see myself as a size 30 in my mind.

Lately when people have taken photos of me? Or heck, even when I've taken rubbish gym selfies. I'm surprised. In a good way. I had one recently where someone took a photo of me in near enough the same pose as one taken about nine months ago. I couldn't believe the difference in what I saw. And it made me realise that I'm not the woman I once was and I like how I'm changing.

I've got a couple of photo dates coming up in the coming months. I'm not going to shy away from the camera because in twenty years or so? I'll look at myself and think I should have valued myself more.
