When does something become an addiction …?

I’m not too sure if I have become addicted to sexual content .

Fab seems to be playing quite the part in this ?

Is it something you speak with a GP about as it’s an illness or do you just go cold Turku yourself

Please don’t be dicks this is effecting my mental state

I definitely have a sex addiction. This is not the same as nymphomania apparently, which I erroneously thought for many years.

Addictions are usually trauma based. You might find some research into CPTSD very helpful. There’s loads of helpful content online.

I’d say if it’s causing you problems in your day to day life or affecting your mental health then it needs sorting. Gp can point you in the right direction to get some help or there’s lots of good information and resources available online for addiction.

There’s a few on here who know their stuff regarding addiction, they might be able to help you

Addiction is defined as not having control over doing, taking or using something to the point where it could be harmful to you.

So is your addiction to sexual content an actual addiction, or have you watched so much porn, to the point where you have become desensitised? Need more to get your rocks off? Have unrealistic expectations of 'real' sex?

We too have found this with such sites as this and have found the only way is to walk away completely for a while (years)

we have done it a few times and now limit ourselves to how much time we spend on here as it can suck the life right out of you.

good luck pal

I don’t think I have unrealistic expectations

I’m not sure that I’m desensitised

I just can’t stop thinking about sex, I don’t have a very active sex life and that’s my reason for it I think to try fill the gap

Delightful Bliss

I'm addicted to my phone, in as much that I have a mild panic attack if I can't find it. Its scary to realise how much you mentally depend on something to live your life.

Talk to your GP. If you can afford a private therapist that’s better imo. But I’ve attended SLAA meetings as well before. Go to one of those. It’s good to be able to talk. Keep talking. Recognising you have a problem is the first thing. But any addiction I wouldn’t recommend trying to just deal with alone.

When you break out in a sweat and feel panicked because you've bought the last bottle in every shop within a mile of your home.

*true story*

I don't think I've ever been addicted, sometimes I feel I'm becoming too dependent on things so I'll give them up for a couple of months just to prove to myself I can.

If it started to get in the way of my day to day life, I'd seek professional help.

Do you mean sexual content as in photos and videos?

I had to go cold turkey on my addiction/obsession as I couldn't get any (nothing illegal).

I had a substitute that I found not so satisfying which lead to me not thinking about it all the time. I even had people looking out for it for me.

Now I have a box of 24 delivered now and then but can limit myself as I know it's not good for me.

Once you break the thinking about it as soon as you wake up, you're on your way to being able to control yourself.

I’m no Doctor but if Fab is playing quite the part you mention and it’s effecting your mental health then I think that you already know what the solution could be, maybe.

Not necessarily usually down to trauma. People who are neurodivergent are at more risk of developing addictions, particularly people with ADHD due to naturally low dopamine levels. Whatever gives an ADHDer that dopamine kick can become problematic.

Research states ADHDers are more likely to be promiscuous so there will be a fair amount of ADHDers on site, some will know they have it, many won't.

I think if it's getting in the way of your daily life you should definitely talk to a professional.

Either a gp or private counselling etc. I really wish you luck and hope that things get better for you.

Op I have lived with addiction and I don't want to be horrible, but it's in your head and it won't kill you without it. Be strong and dare I say it, Man up, and you will overcome it. Group therapy will basically tell you exactly that!!

Try brain tumour and paralysis and I probably work in an industry very few make it to
