Has anyone noticed lots of promo for the new Barbie movie all over. I was at Barbican station in London where the signage was temporarily changed to Barbie-can station.

We had the same some years ago when Wolverine came out. Was very odd seeing Wolverine train station. But it's good cheap advertising for them as loads of people talk about it.

Was it a bright pink? Because I don't mind light pink at all, nor light yellow or light blue - the house I grew up in had 3 rooms with these 3 colours. Most of the time I slept in the yellow/blue one though.

"End of Margot Robbie’s career me thinks

Dunno Jaga, that’s some crap to bounce back from. She’s good but is she that good??"

I don't think that the Barbie movie is meant to be a nihilist commentary upon the entropy of the universe and the ultimate death of everything, scripted by a three time Pulitzer prize winner, filmed according to the rules of the Dogme 95 manifesto, and expecting to win the Guldbagge Award from the Swedish Film Institute. It's a film about a range of dolls for 7 year olds, where everything is pink.

I think that Margot Robbie will survive very well receiving a $12 million payment for spending a couple of months acting as a doll and becoming loved by hundreds of millions of girls. And no doubt getting fapped over by more than a few blokes. [I'll be gobsmacked if there isn't already some Barbie porn being made, and gimp masks being manufactured in bright pink latex]. Whether or not it's an Oscar winning performance, this film isn't going to lose money and I think you can reliably expect Robbie's career to suffer no harm whatsoever.

There were plenty of primary school kids when I went yesterday. They might not follow the feminist storyline but the outfits and dance routines are fun. Barbie says the word vagina at one point and "motherfucker" is bleeped out but its not anything that most young kids won't have heard before.

Because the idea (and I'm not advocating for or against) the premise behind it is that it is a feminist movie wrapped up in a barbie skin.

It is not aimed at kids. Aimed at the parents whom were kids when barbie was more of a phenomenon than she is now.

Oh I get that, and I'm totally up for nostalgic films. But with the kids seeing all the adverts for it, for them at least it feels as though it is a film about their toys just like toy story, which the Barbie film isn't

We adults understand what the film is about, but try to explain to a 6yo that it's not aimed at young children!

But that's the point. Hollywood advertising don't care. They want YOU adults to see it, make it as appealing for you at the expense of all else, even the disappointment of little girls and boys.

And nostalgia does that, and it does it hard. They say sex sells, and it does, but nostalgia does it just as well.

A friend made me go to watch this and I was reluctant initially. It was actually really funny and worth the watch. It's not a film for kids though. There were a couple of 15ish year olds next to me and they didn't get a lot of the jokes or inferences. Mattel properly took the piss out of themselves which was highly amusing too.

Kids are not interested because they can’t relate to Barbie. My 15-year-old hated it and he actually quite enjoyed Oppenheimer.

Target market is us nostalgic Gen-Xers who are paying for the ticket. Mattel laughing at itself is brilliant. It’s a marketing success and it will gross millions and millions…

To me, the lead actress did not fit as Barbie at all… but I can’t think of another actress who could have done it better.

I enjoyed America Ferrera’s performance. And Will Ferrell used to irritate me but I liked him on this!

As a movie it was fucking atrocious. Acid trip fever dream level. The message was there but be fair it was not underneath, it was front and centre, at the expense of a decent story.

I'm not faulting the message at all, the monologue was great, but in terms of movie, I'm glad I didn't pay to see it. If the message was not part of it, the movie would have flopped and be getting slated by more than just those that hate it for the message alone.

I don't agree with that opinion at all, quite the opposite actually - I thought it was great - I think the trailer accurately represents what the movie is like. If you watch it and like what you see, you should go see the movie in the cinema. No need for expectations beyond that (either positive or negative).
