I've been off work with sciatica for two weeks. Its an agency job and they're wanting to know when I'll be back.

Its physical work on the bin lorries

Being an agency job, would it be better to just hand in my notice and re apply for a different job with the client company through a different agency or stick to my guns?

Its a council job with other jobs going and don't want to blot my record with the council as I'm applying for office based jobs with the council

Have you got an estimate of when you're likely to be back? Might be helpful so the bin people can plan for your absence.

If not, give them the option, wait it out or find a replacement.

Hi I'm thinking about leaving as I don't want to damage myself permanently. So might call them on Monday to go weeks notice in

As far as I know, if you resign, you won't be able to gain job seekers? So you'll neither get ssp or know when you'll be back ready to work. If manual work is too much once better and back in work, ask the agency to find you alternative office based roles

I would have a word with Citizens Advice to check on your rights. Having just done a bit of googling it seems like you could have statuary sick pay rights but it seems that would only last for as long as your contract and there might be other wrinkles. I would guess that if you resign then you lose all rights.

You need proper advice.

I started with sciatica and now waiting for surgery. It's a serious condition. You have to see a physiotherapist.
