The hello debate

I read alot of profiles saying don't open message with hi etc.

I for one do as if I saw someone in the street I knew I would open with hello.

However I took the great people of fabs advice once and didn't open with it, my response ....

To be honest a hi doesn't bother me if I like the profile I'll reply if I don't I won't regardless of how long or short the 1st message is.

I certainly don't expect someone to write me an essay as a 1st message.

Hello is fine if their profile has anything half decent written in it and some face / body pics available.

Otherwise nah. No reply. Cannot be bothered, feels like they’re making half arsed or no effort.

It might work for some, but you get out what you put in with us.

I can only speak for myself, myself is weird so probably on Mt own. But I really really hate small talk. I just fi d it absolutely pointless.

Just makes me not reply. Even in real life I just can't be arsed

Anyway on here I just find it lazy. Like you messaged me at least do some work. All hi does is make me go looking around that person's profile for something I can make effort with and then it's blank. I've got fuck all to go on. And I'm bored already ha

I don't understand the "not even a hello first" but I think I'm in the minority with that.

We get loads of messages that just say 'hi'.

We rarely reply to them as they are generally from people we have said that we are not interested in meeting.

Occasionally we get a lovely opening message that says something like 'read your profile and see that you like....'. This is far more interesting to read.

"How was your weekend" is equally boring. I think one "hello" is fine. It's when it's multiplied by 76 in a day's worth of messages for some here. It would make anyone scream.

Hi or hello doesn't bother me as long as there is an actual message to go with it.

If all they send is hi or hello and nothing else it gets deleted.

I tend to write it anyway but then also write a "proper" message after it. I think it refers more to messages which say "Hi" and nothing else.

Hi is OK as the beginning to a message. 'Hi' on its own as the message is weird, uninteresting and only marginally better than 'fancy a fuck' as the opening message.

Starting to think we don’t put enough effort into first messages now! Would explain a lot tbh

We used to write quite big messages but people would reply with “hi, yeah us two, thanks.” So we stopped putting so much effort in.

We say hi and what we like about their profile and try to reference why we think we’d match well but leave it there.

The only messages we receive tend to be really basic as well! Just a “hi, how are you two” or “Mrs has a nice arse” and that’s it so I thought our first messages were quite good. It appears we have a lot to learn
