Do you drink tap water?

I have a friend who, even as a student, only drank bottled water because "it's cleaner". Do you any of you not drink tap water?

Good enough to wash in but not to drink?

Personally I drink tap water, nothing wrong with the stuff. I think we some of the cleanest tap water on Earth.

The tap water is clean it's the old pipes in older houses I worry about. I filter tap water at home and drink bottled water when out.

My old house....perfect tasting water

My new place....like drinking swimming pool water

And it's only 10 miles difference in location

There is round here, tastes funny, a cup of tea tastes like crap if you use tap water that why i dont use it, i have nothing against tap water if its from a area where it tastes ok

Yes .... the tap water in our region is so good its often included in emergency rations albiet in a dehydrated powdered form…

Some water does taste a bit strange from parts of the country, in my experience mostly North.

I'm amazed my friend could afford to drink bottled water all the time as a student.

I drink bottled water if i just want water which is a stupid thing to do and horribly middle class. The water taste depends on lots of factors but generally if it's a 'hard' or 'soft' water region. I think tea tastes nicer in hard water areas but it's what you're used to. I drink water from the tap for tea, but I guess it's boiled then anyway.

I always drink tap water no problem, especially at home in Scotland or Manchester, however in Liverpool it was awful for some reason but still drinkable, at head office in Kingston upon Thames it was disgusting, couldnt even make tea without a layer of greasy stuff on the top and so hard, always took a bottle of Highland spring down with me to the hotel

It's much more difficult dealing with the water changes in the shower. I end up with quite fluffy hair when I wash it in Cumbria.

Everytime I go to Bristol I get stomach problems. The water there smells like bleach.

There was the well know company issue of bottling tap water and selling that. Bottled water does not go through the same checks as tap water in this country but it is safe. There are some that say that long storage in plastic bottles may be dangerous but that's not a debate I have looked at in detail.

I am one of those people with quite sensitive taste buds... not always a blessing! I really taste the difference between tap water and mineral water and therefor I only drink proper mineral water. For tea and coffee I would only use filtered water for the same reason, nothing to to with snobbery... just about taste

I once bought a small glass bottle of water from an island in the pacific where it had not seen the sun for 10,000 years or something daft. Discounting the expensive price, the air miles and the fact that I found out afterwards that the company gave hardly any money or help or anything to the locals, it tasted bloody awful!

I have always d*unk out of the taps, and feel honoured and blessed to live in a country where it is safe to do so.

Whenever I come back from holidaying abroad, the first thing I always do, is to drink from the tap as soon as I have landed.

Drink tap water no problem it's been treated. Hell we even flush the toilets with drinking water! Arguably it's got more bugs than natural spring water.

Love the hard and soft water comments, hard water has more salt in it. It doesn't meet bad softwater can be equally as bad though!

Up here the water is very soft, no limescale or anything, no bad taste. However it still smells slightly like bleach to me, so I only drink it with squash added or some slices of citrus fruit or cucumber, otherwise it's fine boiled for coffee and tea.

Well it's been in the papers a few time. Apparently Chlorination doesn't kill all bugs. The common stomach bug supposidly being one of them. Can't say I've been affected, although not saying it doesn't exist!

Having done a course on water safety a few years ago now.tap water is fresh and clean, well it is here, nor recycled toilet water.how long has the water sat in that bottle for and wot bacteria has been mutating in there over time.

Bristol tap water isn't very nice. I rarely have it just by its self, it's bareable with squash in it.

I drink out of my tap.. but they bottle our water and sell it so I am lucky. Sucks when the well needs service. Cant blame a utility. Three years ago we had to fork over a couple grand to replace the pump.

Our drinking water is filtered through the fridge dispenser unit but it's still good old tap water. If filtered water wasn't available I'd have no problem drinking water straight from the tap, but I'd only drink tap water in the UK, anywhere else and I'd buy bottled water.

It's ok in Australia. And Swiss water is as pure as it comes. Austria and Germany also have perfectly good water. Greece, Spain and Italy I only have bottled.

Yorkshire water is cracking!!! And there are some places the tap water has a different taste.

On the subject of chlorination: it disperses into air so if you draw a jug and leave it in the fridge the chlorine taint will disperse and leave you with a more pleasant tasting water.

That is true. When visiting friends in Hampshire I couldn't stand the water. And tea made with it was foul. No wonder they drank so much coffee.
