So, here’s the spill. Last few weeks I’ve been under a lot of stress to the point that I’ve gone back to stress eating & just not sleeping properly, coupled with it also setting off my anxiety.

How do you deal with stress? Any recommendation or advice?

Don't bottle things up, if you are struggling please seek help from your GP or talk to a friend, even your line manager at work if it's work related... feel free to message if you need to vent x

Thank you, I’ve spoken to my GP and all they can recommend is “Kalms”, but other than that they said not much else they can do.

I’m supposed to be going away this weekend but really not feeling it and may just cancel.

Walking I used to do in droves, may have to pick that up again. Jigsaws though, never thought of that

I work out what I can and can't change and put some actions into place. Then accept what I can't change.

That plus take myself for a wander in the woods and be at one with the trees

I've had a lot of stress recently.

I quit smoking.

The timing of the two wasn't great but the more stress I got the more I realised I hadn't gone back to smoking and the more determined I felt.

Not sure if that makes sense. I think the stress fuelled a stubbornness to not break.

I'm also going counselling...so I get to offload on someone once a week that's paid to listen. I'd recommend that. I've cried after every session so far and then I go off and treat myself to sushi. And then I'm good till the next time.

And if anyone wants to judge me and say I shouldn't put this in the forum....they can do one!

Running has helped me but if you are not wanting to run walking is just as therapeutic.

Talking with friends or even writing down how you are feeling can help pin point what is triggering your stress and anxiety

It used to be mass amounts of self medicating behaviour...

Nowadays it's talking to people, not taking to.much on so that I do feel stressed

In my experience, sleep is everything. If you get that right, everything else falls together. Try leaving your phone away and go to bed on time.

Exercise, fresh air, sunshine, decompression through discussion.

Identifying stresses and removing them also helps. Even if they're very very pretty.

Work predominantly, have an audit next week and it’s the last one for a major project I’ve been working on for the last 11 months. It’s been all go and hardly any stop since then.

Recognising and accepting it is good start op

Try to manage it down rather than thinking you can remove it, stress is essential , useful, healthy , just not too much. Easiest way is take things off your plate and give to others.

Talk to good listeners. A good listener will help you find your own answers and solutions.

Oh and banish procrastination if you’re one of those ! Just decide right now to do that as stress will half immediately when you start to be a doer

I'm in a high stress situation myself to the point of jackiing in my job. I've a NB crap manager who is weak. Next week I'm expected to be a passenger of a lorry driver who is dangerous and the boss either doesn't believe complaints or too weak to do anything about it, besides being called a liar etc about other things. Currently off sick due to sciatica and dreading going back to work.

Can you take a day or 2 off after the audit?

Even when you're working hard, carve some time out. Try to do some exercise.

Maybe try meditation or yoga to calm your brain.

Set aside a period to worry or write all the worries down. Then try and push them aside to give yourself some peace.

Best wishes OP.

Try focusing on what life will be like in just two weeks (or whenever the audit is over).

Did you give the project your best shot? If so, whatever the auditors find you can have nothing to be ashamed of.

Push yourself to take your weekend away. More chance of taking your mind off it than stewing at home. If you're going with someone, tell them why you might be a bit preoccupied.

If all else fails, have a wank. (Shocked that no one has yet suggested this!)

All is a state of mind.

Its how you re act to things.

We all or most are not taught any servival skills ever, only to work and pay bills.

Our though process has a lot to do with how we re act to situations,ir issues, many are created by us,and some ftom extetnal forces.

Write down your challenge, seek genuine good advice, and break down in small chunks. Too much thinkng will keep you on that state of mind dont go throwing your problems widely esp on here or media!

Hope you get sorted asap.

Learn to help yourself! Self belief!!

Your basal metabolic rate (BMR) doesn't really change from day to day. It's the number of calories you will burn every day irrespective of exercise. The problem is that unless you are sedated, your body will burn this number every day. You can speed it up by exercising, walking, running, working out etc and releasing endorphins as a consequence, or you can do nothing. When you do nothing, things like stress and anxiety kick in and set fire to those calories, just like exercise does, but without the benefits of releasing endorphine. They just make you feel like garbage.

If you're not anxious, you probably struggle to sleep because you burn 3x more calories sedate but awake compared with sleeping. Your body needs to burn these BMR calories.

Basically, get up and do some press ups and sit ups. Get home from work and go for a walk or a jog. Do anything you can to release good chemicals and stop your body being a dick

I was thinking of joining the gym as a way to burn stress off, but cardiology still haven’t come back to me with a definitive “Yes that’s fine” so I’m restricted to walking.

It's a fight or flight response.

Walking, eating healthy, meditate. Stress is caused by you, not the situation. You can't fix things when stressed.

I've been in a similar situation to you ,I know it's easy to say but try not to worry about the audit .its there job to find things that are not correct, after all if they didn't find errors then there would be no need for them ,

Good luck to you and look to the future, reward yourself with a treat, something that you really like doing when it's all over .

These last few weeks I've felt like my heart was gonna explode on a few occasions. My watch kept beeping at me tell me I was stressed, so I took that off for a start.

I'm quite pleased it's causing me not to eat though, I'm on a stress diet.

Im normally super chill but got so stressed once on a project.

I worked till about 3am most nights for about 6 weeks, this night I came to bed at 4:30am as it’s getting light, I wasn’t happy it had been a really bad night , lying there heart racing, thinking about 9am meeting, couldn’t sleep, could feel my heart beat just getting faster and stronger then I start deep breathing really fast.

Then I thought, I’m actually going to die, start waking my partner up telling her I’m dying, by this time I can barely breath am convinced I was having a heart attack but I wasn’t.

Luckily she was able to convince me I wasn’t dying ! It was just a panic attack, the only one I’ve ever had in my life but so scary !

Speaking as someone with severe depression...

1- Support: Talk to friends, family, counsellor. Get it out of your head otherwise it'll fester.

2- Exercise: Go for a walk, exercise class...Working up a sweat regularly helps keep the brain weasels away.

3- Sleep: Good regular rest.

4- Get Out of the House: Go for a walk. Just being outside and away from the TV, computer, or phone can help you reset.

Stay strong, if it keeps being an issue do speak to your doctor.

The best way I found to deal with stress was

1, I would train harder for longer

2, just going for a walk no matter got far or short would help out

3, also became a fan of gardening

That’s what worked for me and may not work for you but the important thing is trying things that may help, if it’s too much at times then people will listen and chat to you.

It’s obvious but deal with stress at its source. What is it that’s making you stressed out? You need to remedy that.

Then of course there’s meditation, walks, a break, CBD etc
