So I get into work today yeah, and there's this guy, he's in his mid-twenties which is wonderful for me because he reminds me of how mental I was at that time, oh morning by the way.

Anyway, he's inconsolable. Maudlin. He's having a proper mope.

His favourite character in the TV show was killed off and he's genuinely affected; he's questioning the fragility of life, he's concerned that he will never be the man that this fake man was: he's all over the shop, basically.

I'm on his second reacharound attempt of the day, I can't even get so much as a throb guys, it's serious.

Has a fictional character's end hit any of you in this way? Unload your traumatic burdens here while I probably don't reply because I don't own a telly right now.

Alcide in True Blood.

What a lazy, cheap and unceremonious death he was given.

Mind you, the show was in free fall quality wise by this time and actually ended at the end of the season anyway.

I couldn't believe they were all killed off in between all the beautiful but hammy acting. I was bereft and inconsolable for days. I couldn't even focus on focusing.

Bobby Ewing in Dallas.

I mean seriously?!! What were they thinking?!!

Thankfully, the makers must have realised my disgust though and it was all shown to be just a dream.

….which was even more disappointing and an absolute insult

Yes, actually - that, of all endings, was the one that genuinely got me through my heart. Possibly because I was brought up on the writings of Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen, and my grandmother's life-long sadness of loosing both her brothers.

I think also that this wasn't just a fictional death of fictional people. In the same way that the grave of the Unknown Soldier is a symbol for the grave of every soldier, Blackadder and Baldrick are the symbol of every soldier who went to their death. The scene shows something so big that it can only be shown by something so personal.

Technically not a "death" (do I lose brownie points for not following the rules?), but the 10th Doctor's "I don't want to go" had me bawling into my cat's fur. I'd not long had a baby, so blame hormones

Here’s one which absolutely floored me:

Bing Bong’s ‘death’ in Disney’s, Inside Out.

Now I know some folk try to justify it by saying that he was only an imaginary friend but I call’eth bollocks! - He was sentient goddamit!

Even worse, Disney lovingly depicted him disappearing in graphic bloody detail! Absolute bastards!

I thought the ending was very true to life. There's plenty more escapist shoot out stuff if that's of interest, but I thought it was interesting to see popular media reflecting the institutional protection of corruption.
